The Evolution of English Language Over the Last 500 Years

There is, of course, one constant: by far and away the most popular word throughout history is the humble definite article "the". No surprise there, as it's an indispensable classic.
Dig around into short phrases, however, and things get more interesting. Back in 1520, the most popular three-word phrase was "of the Pope". Not so these days, because it's been superseded by the more useful, but rather more boring, string "one of the".

The First Television and Telephone Satellite Launched 50 Years Ago
On July 10th, 1962, NASA launched the first Telstar satellite. The spherical satellite—which actually looks like a model of the Death Star—was the first to relay television and telephone signals through space.
In fact, just two days after launch on July 12, 1962, the satellite transmitted a television signal across the Atlantic Ocean from Andover Earth Station in Maine to the Pleumeur-Bodou Telecom Center in Brittany, France. According to the excellent history at Telstar50.org, the first images from the United States were of President John F. Kennedy and the first beamed over from France were of singer Yves Montand, along with clips of sporting events. Telstar 1 was also responsible for the first telephone calls—some 400 of them—sent through space.

Skybox Creative, a branding and web design studio in San Diego releases new graphic design project: “Infographic – 20 Years of Slang”. A group of innovative designers and creative minds, Skybox planned out this concept during an inspiration session in a recent staff meeting.
“We wanted to put our creative talents towards a fun project we could share; one that would make people think but also make them laugh.” said Angelina Sereno, the CEO of Skybox Creative. “What we found most interesting was how words and phrases have morphed over time. For instance, we see a lot more initialisms and combined words that sound really funny in the 2000’s. Some of the words in the infographic are a little daring or sexually charged, but it is a direct reflection of what we see happening in the world, especially in pop culture.”
