Over $100 Billion Disappears from U.S. Banks in One Week
he 25 largest banks in the country had a rather exciting first week of January. According to data released by the Federal Reserve, depositors withdrew an astounding $114.1 billion during the week ending January 9. A significant portion of this withdrawal can be attributed to the expiration of the Transaction Account Guarantee (TAG) program.
The TAG program provided extra insurance protection for depositors, ensuring their balances, in case their bank becomes insolvent. Extending TAG was part of the fiscal cliff negotiations, but it didn’t make it into the final agreement.

Apple iPhone 5 sales top 5 million during the first weekend
We saw a brief statement from Apple not all that long back about how the pre-order sales were going for the iPhone 5. And well, we are now sitting on the Monday following the official launch weekend and as many were waiting for expecting — Apple has dropped the press release. In this case, they are touting as having sold more than 5 million iPhone 5′s.

Top 10 in Tech This Week
Just because it’s the middle of summer doesn’t mean the tech world grinds to a halt. To the contrary! I’m gone for a couple of weeks and I come back and discover that technology innovation has exploded.
What happened? Well, tons of ideas blasted to the forefront, such as a super-fast plane design, a memory breakthrough, an iPhone dock that literally rattles the rafters, and the introduction of a stalking drone aircraft that can be used by mere mortals such as you and me.

Another iPad killer? Microsoft set to launch tablet next week
Microsoft is holding a special event in Los Angeles on Monday, for which few details are available. It's thought the computer company could be about to unveil a tablet to take on the iPad.
Oh, really? Another iPad killer? Haven’t we heard it all before? Every tablet released these days is touted as a possible killer, but let’s face it, they not only fail to injure the iPad, they barely cause a scratch.
This time the talk surrounds Microsoft. Entertainment blog The Wrap reported on Thursday that according to “an individual with knowledge of the company,” the computer giant is about to unveil a tablet “that will mark its entry into rival Apple’s territory.”
