Apple's next iPhone: a rumor roundup
The iPhone 5 came out less than six months ago, but rumors of Apple's next phone are already swirling. There were signs in January that Apple may already be testing a new iPhone, and The Wall Street Journal reported that a low-cost version of the iPhone may arrive this year. Though it's never certain that rumors will add up, nearly everything about last year's iPhone 5 was leaked in advance of the phone's debut. Let's take a look at what the rumors are saying about Apple's next move for the iPhone.

'Next generation' Samsung smartphones to ship with Visa NFC payment system
At an event today at MWC, Visa announced a partnership with Samsung that will result in its payWave mobile wallet app getting installed on the "next generation" of Samsung smartphones. PayWave will work with the NFC chip on those devices to enable mobile payments, but Visa says it's agnostic about exactly which credit cards get used with the app. It's part of the "Visa Ready Program," which lets all sorts of companies connect to Visa's network of payment systems — not just banks, but manufacturers and carriers as well. In that vein, Visa says that it's offering future Samsung customers the ability to hook up any Visa card to the secure NFC element in their smartphones for mobile payments.
PayWave is actually able to accomodate cards other than Visa cards, a technology that the company had actually licensed to both Google for Wallet and ISIS, even though had Visa suggested that the other major credit card companies would be on their own when it comes to getting their payment solutions on to Samsung's phones. Google Wallet, by comparison, currently allows users to use any card with its app.

Next Xbox Will Reportedly Have Siri-Style Natural Language Input
One of the most-rumored features of the mythical Apple television set is Siri integration that would allow you to naturally ask questions and issue commands to your TV, but Microsoft may beat Apple to the punch, if a new report from The Verge is accurate. Microsoft already has some voice features built into the current generation Xbox, but the next-gen console will get much-improved abilities including natural language processing powers, the report claims.
New voice-based abilities include the option to wake the new Xbox from sleep mode with an “Xbox on” command, as well as a system that can use Kinect to detect people in the room and offer up multiplayer game suggestions. Users can also query the new Xbox to ask it what their friends are currently playing, tell it to pick up playing a movie where it was last left off and more. The new system will also be much better at vocalizing responses to voice-based user input, according to the report, which should make the overall experience feel much more like an ordinary conversation.

Next tablet class will push the edge of science fiction
It’s been two years since Apple Inc. launched the iPad and spawned rival tablets from the likes of Samsung Electronics Co, Amazon.com Inc., Sony Corp, and now Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp.
Much of the competition so far has centered on making smartphone and tablets lighter, slimmer, faster and longer-running than their predecessors, and the trend shows no signs of slowing. The increasingly crowded marketplace is also galvanizing hardware designers and software engineers to explore new technologies that may revolutionize the look and feel of mobile devices in coming years.

Take A Look At The Next Game From The Makers Of Angry Birds
Amazing Alex just hit the App Store and Google Play store today.
The puzzle game is made Rovio, the same people who brought you Angry Birds.
Amazing Alex is a physics game based off of a similar game, Casey's Contraptions. Rovio acquired the rights to the game earlier in the year.
It doesn't seem like Amazing Alex is too different from Casey's Contraptions but, that doesn't take away the fun factor.
Amazing Alex is available for iPhone and iPad.
Price: $0.99 (iPhone), $2.99 (iPad), and $0.99 (Android)

What's Next for Pinterest
Though some Web companies seem to have product surprises around every corner (ahem, Facebook), Pinterest’s road map is actually relatively obvious. For all its popularity and next-big-thinginess and $1.5 billion valuation, Pinterest is missing a bunch of significant components.
In my conversations with people in and around Pinterest, it has been clear that the 40-person company is adding these features as quickly as it can hire and build — all the while keeping up with demand.
But I’ve also been warned that, like many of the products its users save, Pinterest wants its products to feel handcrafted and unique, so it may be a bit slower than some might hope.

Microsoft Has Another Big Announcement Today, And This Time It's About Windows Phone
Microsoft is holding a developers event today to go over the future of its Windows Phone mobile operating system.
That means we'll finally get a look at Apollo, AKA Windows Phone 8, the next major version of Windows Phone.
Microsoft has done a good job at keeping Apollo a secret, so we don't know too much about it. What we do know is that Apollo is based on different software that likely won't be compatible with current phones like Nokia's flagship Lumia 900.
Microsoft won't say whether or not that's true, but we're guessing the lack of denial means current Windows Phone owners will be stuck on the old version forever.

Another iPad killer? Microsoft set to launch tablet next week
Microsoft is holding a special event in Los Angeles on Monday, for which few details are available. It's thought the computer company could be about to unveil a tablet to take on the iPad.
Oh, really? Another iPad killer? Haven’t we heard it all before? Every tablet released these days is touted as a possible killer, but let’s face it, they not only fail to injure the iPad, they barely cause a scratch.
This time the talk surrounds Microsoft. Entertainment blog The Wrap reported on Thursday that according to “an individual with knowledge of the company,” the computer giant is about to unveil a tablet “that will mark its entry into rival Apple’s territory.”

This Is What The Next iPhone Will Supposedly Look Like
The photo below is supposedly what the next iPhone is going to look like.
As you can see, it's a lot like the current iPhone, but just a little bit bigger, a little bit thinner, and it has a different casing. The back of it is an aluminum material with color panels on the top and bottom.
As with any Apple hardware leak, you should treat this with a healthy dose of skepticism.
These images come from 9 to 5 Mac's Mark Gurman, who got the photos from "supply chain sources." He has more images at 9 to 5 Mac.
This could be what the next iPhone looks like, or it could just be a fake. Before the last iPhone was released we saw a bunch of iPhone cases that were supposedly made for the iPhone 5. Turned out they weren't real.

What To Do When The Next Layoff Could Be You
All Things Digital reports that Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Meg Whitman will put the wheels in motion next week to eliminate about 30,000 jobs. Add them to the list of companies that are pruning the ranks. What if yours is next?
How you cope with a layoff can be a life changer – not only for your career but increasingly for your personal finances too. The steps you take when you are most vulnerable – that is, when you get the news and during the weeks or months following it – can play a huge role in the future. In various ways, they influence whether you must dip into savings and if so, how soon; your ability to find another job (and the speed with which you do), and whether you will need to permanently alter your standard of living.

The Next iPhone Is Coming This October
This week there was a lot of noise about when Apple planned on releasing its next generation of iPhone.
Here's an answer on the release time from one of the Street's best analysts.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says it will "likely" be coming in October. He says it will be a physically redesigned phone that supports LTE, the fast wireless network.
He also believes it's going to produce a monster holiday quarter, and most analysts are underestimating the impact of the new iPhone. ("The Street's 8% y/y unit growth estimate for the December-12 quarter is likely too low.")
This week Qualcomm said it was going to have supply constraints for certain chips, but Munster believes those constraints will have no effect on the new iPhone.

Here's Proof That The Next iPhone Will Have 4G LTE
It's not a stretch to speculate Apple's next iPhone will be a 4G LTE device, just like the new iPad.
Just in case you needed some proof though, iDownloadBlog got a hot tip that Apple has already added 4G LTE iPhone options to the latest version of iOS.
Someone with a jailbroken iPhone 4 was able to dig through the iOS code and find several specific references to a 4G LTE iPhone. iDB was able to independently confirm the LTE iPhone mentions.

Everything We Know (And Think We Know) About Samsung's Next Galaxy Phone
You know you're getting close to a big gadget launch when the leaks start heating up.
Now that we have the iPad launch out of the way, everyone is focusing on Samsung's Galaxy S III flagship smartphone.
Samsung broke with tradition this year and decided not to show off its new Galaxy phone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Instead, Android fans are going to be kept guessing for a little while longer.

Should You Gamble on the Next Business Fad?
Corporate America as fun and games? Maybe, now that gamification has come on the scene.
Gamification is defined as the use of game design techniques to engage audiences. Gamification encourages players to engage in desirable behavior by dangling the carrot otherwise known as “winning.”
The reason we like online gambling so much is that apparently, human beings have a psychological predisposition to gaming. And many organizations are jumping on the gamification bandwagon in order to motivate employees and combat disengagement.
