Finally, the iPhone 5 is up for grabs from the U.S. Apple Online Store. Although this comes a bit late especially since some carrier-issued iPhone 5 units were supposed to be unlocked anyway, this is still a welcome development if you are planning to upgrade to the iPhone 5 and don’t want to get tangled up with a two-year contract from either Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. Or if you travel a lot, the unlocked iPhone 5 comes off as a hassle-free device since you can insert a nano-SIM from any local telco providers and use the handset right away. This is also a great news for non-U.S. folks who are itching to get the iPhone 5, either to get it shipped via forwarders or have somebody from the U.S. ship the unit on their behalf. HTC Droid DNA vs. iPhone 5 (And Everyone Else): Who's Got the Best Display?

We just got our hands on the HTC Droid DNA this morning, and our first impressions were very promising. The screen is really, really gorgeous. But, how gorgeous is it when you put it next to the other best smartphones?

We decided to pit the Droid DNA against the iPhone 5, Nexus 4, HTC One X, and Samsung Galaxy S III (from left to right it's the iPhone, Nexus 4, Droid DNA, One X, and Galaxy S III). All screens were turned up to maximum brightness, as can be seen in the photo above. The first thing you'll note is that the Droid DNA isn't the brightest by a long shot; that title still belongs to the iPhone 5, followed by the One X (though the One X seems brighter because there are simply more pixels in total). Disappointing? Yes, though it's still plenty bright enough to be visible in daylight.

Apple’s website now shows the unlocked pricing for the iPhone 5 in the U.S. Using the site’s compare tool, you can see that the 16GB model starts at $649, with the 32GB version costing $749, and the 64GB top-tier configuration running $849.

That’s the same that the iPhone 4S used to cost unlocked, and it’s a considerable additional expense above and beyond the on-contract price, but you get a couple of advantages.

If you wanna read into the teaser image Apple sent out, the shadow of the 12 is a 5, implying that they just might actually call the next iPhone the iPhone 5. If you haven't been keeping up, rumors have suggested the iPhone 5 will have a new two-tone unibody design, a smaller, redesigned dock connector, 4G LTE and a larger 4-inch display using Sharp's IGZO technology. There's also a possibility the phone could have NFC technology baked in, along with redesigned earbuds.

China's Already Knocking Off the iPhone 5

According to highly suspect rumors website NowhereElse.fr, an industrious Chinese company has already copied the design for the iPhone 5—even before we officially know what the iPhone 5 looks like. Meet the Goophone i5, the bastard child of cobbled together rumors and unyielding ambition.

If you ignore the buzzing Android bug (?) on the back of the Goophone i5 it could easily be what many people think Apple's newest iPhone will look like. At the very least it has the rumored two-tone back design. But where most believe the new iPhone will have a taller design than its predecessor, the dimensions of the Goophone i5 are the same as those on the old 4x3, 3.5-inch iPhone 4S. Oh well. It seems even counterfeiters aren't willing to fully place their bets based on supposedly leaked specs.
