Next week, all of the rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 5 will be confirmed, refuted, or left in the air. One thing is certain: September 12th will be the official Apple iPhone 5 event.

Though the invitation they sent to tech magazines across the internet didn’t give many specifics, the clever play on the date with the shadowed 5 makes it pretty clear what the event is going to surround. Will it have a 4″ screen as rumored? When will it officially be available? Will there be major changes to the hardware, battery, or other components? Are they really rolling out a new type of charger?

The iPhone 5 Is Coming on September 12

If you're holding out on buying an iPhone until the new one is out, mark down Apple's just-announced September 12 event on your calendar: that could be the day the phone is revealed. Posted by The Loop, the invite says the event will begin at 10 AM PDT at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.

If you wanna read into the teaser image Apple sent out, the shadow of the 12 is a 5, implying that they just might actually call the next iPhone the iPhone 5. If you haven't been keeping up, rumors have suggested the iPhone 5 will have a new two-tone unibody design, a smaller, redesigned dock connector, 4G LTE and a larger 4-inch display using Sharp's IGZO technology. There's also a possibility the phone could have NFC technology baked in, along with redesigned earbuds.

iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Said To Begin September 12

Apple's next generation iPhone will be available for pre-order on September 12, reports Rene Ritchie of iMore.

Ritchie says the news comes from the same sources who have been reliable with Apple reports in the past. He was also the first to report Apple will announce the next iPhone on September 12, a date that has been all but confirmed by Apple through multiple press leaks.

So it looks like Apple will announce the new phone and start taking pre-orders on the same day. It's still expected to launch in stores on September 21, Ritchie says.
