Apple's new iMac computers now available for purchase

As we were expecting to happen today, Apple has officially listed the new iMac computers for sale. The new iMac is available in a 21.5-inch and 27-inch model. Both are available for order as of today November 30, however the 27-inch model will not be shipping for another few weeks. The 21.5-inch model, this one has an available to ship date of 1 to 3 business days.

That being said, the 21.5-inch iMac is available in available in two configurations, as well as being available to customize a bit. The default configurations are as follows;

$1,299 — 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics

$1,499 — 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics

Apple Will Unveil New iMacs At The iPhone 5 Event Next Week

The iPhone 5 isn't the only thing we can look forward to at next week's iPhone event – now Fox News reports that the company will be updating its iMac line of desktop computers as well.

This comes to us by way of BGR.

We've expected this for a little while. Apple Stores around the country have been "running out" of current-generation iMacs at the same time.

It's a timely refresh. The current iMac hasn't seen any improvements since October 2009.

Apple to 'overhaul' most products in 2012, report says

Apple's product line is set to get some big makeovers next year, if a new report is to be believed.

Citing sources in "the upstream supply chain," tech news site Digitimes says that Apple plans to "overhaul" its iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air and iMac during the course of next year.

Turn a PC Off or Leave It On?

Call me a tree-hugger if you must, but I see no reason to keep a computer on when it's not in use. That wastes electricity, which is bad for your pocketbook and bad for the planet. And it's probably bad for the computer.

Yes, I have seen occasional arguments that shutting down a computer, then starting it up cold, cause more wear and tear than leaving it on for 12 hours. I just don't buy them. All computers potentially suffer from heat problems, and one that never gets a chance to cool down will suffer from more of them.

Besides, a computer that's off is a computer that can't be infected with malware or behave under orders from afar if it's already infected.
