Creative Food Packaging Design Ideas

Media_httpwwwgraphicm_bcicp

Packaging design ideas are essential for attracting customers to both new and existing products. Unlike the usual shapes of packages, creative packaging tries to implement unusual shapes and ideas to help the product to stand out from the similar products on the store shelves. Choosing the best packaging idea starts with a good market research where the designer or design agency studies many factors, such as the product type, consumers, usability, and other competitor products in the market.

An intensive study of the above-mentioned factors will guide the designer in the right direction of creative packaging design ideas. These ideas can be inspired by different factors, such as the nature of the product. For example, if you are designing a package for a milk bottle, you would probably get your inspiration ideas from the green nature, cows, and the pure white color of milk products.

Why good storytelling helps you design great products

Media_httpgigaom2file_akoak

One of the biggest flubs that product teams make is confusing designs that look great with designs that actually work well. It’s a simple mistake, but it can have grave consequences: If your product doesn’t work well, no one will even care how it looks, after all.

The best way I’ve found to get around this confusion is a technique called story-centered design. The idea is to create a series of narrative use-cases for your product that illustrate every step in the user’s journey through it. I’ve used this technique with dozens of startups and it always helps teams move past the surface visual details to make better decisions on what really matters: how their product finally works.

Examples of Beautiful, Inspired Product Packaging

Media_httpcdn5phireba_dbgan

Sometimes great design is about being different. Being different is a bonus, it allows you to stand out from the crowd and can help you be seen, and the same is true of packaging.

Product packaging designs often follow typical conventions so that they don’t seem out of place – whether it’s bread, wine or new trainers, we can typically guess what the packaging for each product will look like. But that’s where being different can work to your advantage. Products that have intriguing, unusual or creative packaging stand out on the shelves, which increases the likelihood that they’ll be bought as well as other bonuses, like being an interesting talking point.

Amazon confirms it has no plans to launch a $99 Kindle Fire HD (update)

Media_httpcdn3sbnatio_shirr

Amazon may be expanding its Kindle Fire line of tablets with a new, low-cost version of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD, according to a report from TechCrunch. Allegedly, this new Kindle Fire HD will have a TI processor just like its more expensive stablemates, and it will have a 1280 x 800 pixel display like the current 7-inch HD model, which sells for $199. Amazon still offers the older version of the Kindle Fire, which has a lower resolution display, for $159.

It's not clear what will be different with this new lower cost model compared to Amazon's current tablets, or when it will be available for purchase. Amazon did recently announce a price drop on its larger Kindle Fire HD 8.9, slashing the price by up to $100 depending on configuration.

Samsung to jump into wearable tech segment with a watch of their own

Media_httpcdntechicom_ghjfd

Rumors have been spreading about the mythical iWatch from Apple. It will be worn on the risk and is supposed to have similar functionality to the iPhone.

Samsung is doing it, too. You’re probably thinking, “Of course they are.”

“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said during an interview in Seoul. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

The bitter rivalry for mobile domination in the gadget department has been one of the most contentious in recent years between tech companies. Apple sues Samsung, Samsung sues Apple, and both claim leadership in the smartphone arena. Expect it to get even hotter as Bloomberg is reporting that Samsung is following Apple once again.

20+ Die Cut Design Ideas for Print (With Examples)

Media_httpwwwcompanyf_qbbch

It’s easy to find inspiration in a unique color, font or logo when creating print marketing collateral–but the shape of your media is one aspect of design and branding that is often overlooked when brainstorming for ideas.

Need some examples? Consider the soda bottle to the right. Any idea what brand it is? You could certainly tell if it were labeled, but there’s nothing about the shape itself that tells us anything about the brand.

Meanwhile, the Coca-Cola bottle below is instantly recognizable. Notice the distinctive indents, ridges and tapers; even without a label, you’d be able to tell this was a Coca-Cola bottle simply by touching it. It’s not just the color or font that gives this media an identifiable brand, it’s the shape.

There haven't been any rumors or leaks of what the phone's next design will look like but French tech site, Nowhereelse.fr has commissioned graphic designer, Martin Hajek to imagine.

Hajek draws inspiration from the current iPad Mini design and offers the device in two different screen sizes.

We like how the device has no edge to edge bezel and no home button. Instead of a physical home button the function is imagined to resemble Apple's MacBook trackpad invisible button.

Apple’s ‘iWatch’ Will Launch This Year

Media_httpwwwbloomber_ulcbc

While Tim Cook has dropped hints that Apple Inc. (AAPL) is hard at work on a television to drive the next era of growth, the company’s wristwatch-style device, still in development, may prove more profitable.

The global watch industry will generate more than $60 billion in sales in 2013, said Citigroup Inc. analyst Oliver Chen. While that’s smaller than the pool of revenue that comes from TVs, gross margins on watches are about 60 percent, he said. That’s four times bigger than for televisions, according to Anand Srinivasan, a Bloomberg Industries analyst.

Apple, with its iconic brand and lucrative retail network, is poised to tap into the growing watch industry. Headway in the business would help compensate for slowing growth in other areas, such as iPhones and iPods. Apple’s stock has slumped by more than a third since peaking in September on signs of accelerating competition led by Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) and concern over how quickly Chief Executive Officer Cook is pushing into new products.

“This can be a $6 billion opportunity for Apple, with plenty of opportunity for upside if they create something totally new like they did with the iPod -- something consumers didn’t even know they needed,” said Chen, who covers luxury- goods retailers.

The TV industry will generate $119 billion in sales this year, according to market-research firm IHS Electronics & Media. Using Chen’s margin estimates, a 10 percent share for Apple in each market would mean gross profit of $3.6 billion for watches, outstripping $1.79 billion for TVs.

Media_httpreadwriteco_diehu

Leap Motion, the flash drive-sized controller that lets you manipulate your computer's interface with a multitude of precise hand gestures, will begin shipping to customers who pre-ordered the device on May 13. In a partnership with Best Buy, the Leap Motion controller will also hit physical store shelves in the U.S. starting May 19.
