These fantastic color plates of marine mollusks are from the 1833 scientific atlas, “Voyage De La Corvettte L’Astrolabe.” The five volume atlas documents the scientific expedition of French naval officer and naturalist Jules Dumont d’Urville, who circumnavigated the globe aboard the French exploration ship Astrolabe between 1826 and 1829. The plates were scanned by Paul K of BibliOdyssey.

Alessandro Venier is a talented photographer from Pordenone, Italy. Throughout his career he has worked for several photo-studios in Pordenone’s area, post-producing and taking pictures for catalogs. Alessandro finished a book/photography project called “Modern portraits of old craftsmanship.” The images he took tell stories of people who continue working as craftsman and artisans. The World's Oldest Working Computer Has Been Resurrected

The world's oldest working digital computer, often referred to as "The Witch", has been given a new lease of life. A team of computer scientists has restored it to its former glory—and now it's on display for all to see.

The computer was originally designed and developed all the way back in 1949 at the UK's Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell in Oxfordshire. Weighing in at 2.5 tonnes, the behemoth was designed to crunch calculations for nuclear scientists, so they didn't have to use mechanical adding machines.

In last week's episode of "Shark Tank", two grandmothers from Yelm, Washington landed a $250,000 investment from Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran for their Ice Chips Candy company.

In exchange for the cash, Beverly Vines-Haines and Charlotte Clary gave up a 40% stake in their company, even though they were only looking to give up a 15% stake.

But these two are not your typical entrepreneurs. Vines-Haines used to be a romance writer and Clary has a B.S. in Natural Health. And between the two of them, they have 37 grandchildren.

Adolfo Farsari (11 February 1841 – 7 February 1898) was an Italian photographer based in Yokohama, Japan. Following a brief military career, including service in the American Civil War, he became a successful entrepreneur and commercial photographer. His photographic work was highly regarded, particularly his hand-coloured portraits and landscapes, which he sold mostly to foreign residents and visitors to the country. Farsari's images were widely distributed, presented or mentioned in books and periodicals, and sometimes recreated by artists in other media; they shaped foreign perceptions of the people and places of Japan and to some degree affected how Japanese saw themselves and their country. His studio, the last notable foreign-owned studio in Japan, was one of the country's largest and most prolific commercial photographic firms. Largely due to Farsari's exacting technical standards and his entrepreneurial abilities it had a significant influence on the development of photography in Japan.

What Happens When You Add Color to Iconic Black and White Photos?

It's a little disorienting, to say the least. The best way I can describe the addition of color to famous black and white photos is that it looks more like a frame from a movie scene, than snapshot of real life. A little unreal.

It's obviously not as hilarious as uncropped iconic photos but adding color kind of removes the picture from its time in history. Do they look better? Possibly. But are the pictures as powerful? I don't think so.
