What The Pinterest Redesign Means For Brands

Media_httpwwwfastcomp_gdyig

The prominence of Pinterest in social media after only three years proves just how user-friendly it has been from the outset: By February 2012 it was already driving more traffic than Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn combined. No wonder marketers have been scrambling over each other to set up accounts.

Pinterest has recently re-styled some of its features, meaning that brands can get even more out of the image-sharing site. I’ve put together some of the top tips and tricks to using Pinterest for your brand so you can make the most of its slick new look.

How Artists & Designers Can Grow Their Audience on Pinterest

Media_httpinspiration_ltaia

Have you been avoiding Pinterest? Why? With its 40 million users, Pinterest is a relatively small social network compared to Facebook (which hit 1 billion users late last year), but it’s an active one. 80% of Pinterest’s pins are repins – that is, someone enjoyed something that someone else shared, and pinned it to one of their own boards. There is a thriving art community on Pinterest, and it’s just waiting for you to join in.

Everything You Need to Know About the New Pinterest

Media_httprack3mshcdn_gakud

Pinterest had the good fortune of surging in popularity relatively soon after launching its beta in 2010. However, after registering millions of users, the social network still had a lot of work to do.

At first, the site was buggy, the UI wasn't especially intuitive and the overall service lacked some significant features. But what saved the visual social network was Pinterest's game-changing design.

Pinterest Raises Another $200 Million and is Now Worth $2.5 Billion

Media_httpstatic6busi_blfgr

Pinterest, a site for sharing and discovering images, has sold $200 million in stock to new and current investors for less than 10 percent of the company, valuing it at $2.5 billion, the company just confirmed to Business Insider.

The Wall Street Journal first reported rumors of a new financing earlier this month, placing the valuation between $2 billion and $2.5 billion.
AllThingsD's Kara Swisher reported the financing earlier on Wednesday.

"Our focus is on helping millions of people discover things they love and get inspiration to go do those things in their life,” Pinterest cofounder and CEO Ben Silbermann said in a statement. "This investment gives us more resources to help realize that vision."

Valiant Capital Management, a hedge fund which owns large stakes in Apple and Google, is leading the round. Valiant founder Christopher Hansen was an early investor in Facebook as well.

Pinterest Is Testing A New Look

Media_httpstatic1busi_ofyzh

Remember Pinterest?

The site for "pinning" photographs and other images of interesting objects—think Tumblr, but organized thematically rather than chronologically—is testing out a new look, software engineer Vy Phan reports on the company blog.

The goal of the redesign (click the image to the right to enlarge it) is to make the homepage easier to navigate and to show more related images on the detail pages for a specific pinned image. That, in turn, should mean people spend more time on the site.

Accelerate Your Success with Pinterest Marketing

Media_httpinspiration_odhdj

Pinterest has taken the social media world by storm. It generates so much referral that it is a great disservice to your brand if you do not utilize it for marketing. Pinterest is only second in rank to Facebook when it comes to user engagement and as everyone knows, this is the pot of gold in Social Media Marketing. Pinterest’s demographic is predominantly female but it is growing so rapidly that the gender bias shouldn’t hold true for long.

So how do we effectively use Pinterest to market our brand/product? Let’s find out.

Business on Pinterest - 56 Ways to Market Your Business on Pinterest

Media_httpwwwmedianov_mrhmd

In case you’ve been living in a mountain cave in Bhutan for the past couple of months, Pinterest is a relatively new social networking site that allows users to create online image collages, then quickly and easily share those collages — called “pinboards” — with other Pinterest users. It’s fun, easy, and catching on like wildfire right now.

Part of Pinterest’s appeal is that it’s beautiful. Enter the lovely world of Pinterest, and all the troubles of your day-to-day life just seem to slip away in a stream of perfect little black dresses, baby otters, and cherubic children who never seem to get dirty or mouth off to their parents. Because it’s image-based, the core of Pinterest is overwhelmingly positive. I like to think of Pinterest as Facebook without the whining.

The Non-Technical Way Pinterest Grew From 3,000 Users To The Web's Third Largest Traffic Referrer

Media_httpstatic4busi_injew

While Pinterest is now the web's third-largest traffic referrer, the photo collection site wasn't always booming.

CEO Ben Silbermann told the latest Y Combinator class on Saturday that his site only had 3,000 users three months after its launch. A lot of people didn't understand Pinterest, and many VCs initially shot him down.

"There are lots of ways for investors to say no to you, and I’m pretty sure I’ve heard every single one,” AllThingsD's Liz Gannes quotes the young co-founder.

What's Next for Pinterest

Media_httpallthingsdc_qvabv

Though some Web companies seem to have product surprises around every corner (ahem, Facebook), Pinterest’s road map is actually relatively obvious. For all its popularity and next-big-thinginess and $1.5 billion valuation, Pinterest is missing a bunch of significant components.

In my conversations with people in and around Pinterest, it has been clear that the 40-person company is adding these features as quickly as it can hire and build — all the while keeping up with demand.

But I’ve also been warned that, like many of the products its users save, Pinterest wants its products to feel handcrafted and unique, so it may be a bit slower than some might hope.
