The report summarizes the key findings of the consortium’s annual Global Career Brainstorming Day, an international, multicity event that brings together nearly 100 career professionals — including coaches, resumé writers and college career services professionals — from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. “What’s consistent every year is the very fast pace of change,” says Louise Kursmark, co-director of consortium and one of the co-editors of the report.

What's Inside Successful Entrepreneurs' Arsenals?

Media_httprack2mshcdn_aqfll

People despise being told the areas they're lacking and how they can improve. But, for a few tools that make winning easier, it's worth swallowing your pride.

A recent post by LinkedIn on the arsenals of highly successful entrepreneurs shows what weapons of war these figures use for battle and what they can't get through their workday without.

"Their answers ranged from smartphones, to bike lock keys, to brilliant colleagues," LinkedIn editor Francesca Levy told Mashable. She says more than one-third of the 60 influencers who contributed can't live without their mobile devices — no small surprise. But they're not using those devices just for Internet surfing, texting or even business calls. "Peter Guber, owner of the L.A. Dodgers, uses his phone to watch a live feed of his new AAA stadium being constructed. Craigslist founder Craig Newmark treats his gadgets as customer service tools because he self-identifies as a customer service rep and nerd."...

Corporate blogging is vastly different from the usual concept of ‘personal’ blogging. According to Wikipedia, “a corporate blog is published and used by an organization to reach its organizational goals”. Thus, corporate blogs are of two kinds – internal blogs and external blogs.

The internal blogs are meant for its employees and management. Whatever happens within it is not revealed outside. External blogs are public blogs where a team is usually assigned to communicate with the outside world, that is, their targeted consumer base. Amazon, Facebook, Delta Airlines, Red Cross, BMW and Starbucks have some of the best corporate blogs. You can read about them and more here.

The Successful Schedule: How Flourishing Professionals Plan Their Day

Media_httpinspiration_kjmjr

High school students have it made – the first thing they do when they get to school is hang out in homeroom for a few minutes. Joking around with friends about the weekend and checking the day’s class schedule is a good precursor for what every adult should do as well: prepare for the day ahead without diving into tedious work right away. In Adult World, “homeroom” should last for longer than eight minutes and it won’t necessarily include our best buddies. The first real hour of the workday – the “Power Hour” – plays a huge part in setting up the day for success.

Career Advice From LinkedIn's Billionaire Founder

Media_httpstatic5busi_owjmu

Reid Hoffman started his professional life with the intention of becoming an academic.

But then he realized: "in order to be a professional scholar, you have to dedicate a vast majority of your career to writing esoteric books that only 50 people will understand."

So instead, he got into the technology industry with a job at Apple, where he helped build eWorld, Apple's version of America Online.

Next, he started a company called SocialNet. It failed.

A friend of Hoffman's, Peter Thiel, recruited him to join a startup, PayPal. It sold to eBay in 2002.

Then Hoffman went on a long trip to Australia. There, he decided to create an Internet company.

It's still around.

It's LinkedIn.

Today, it's worth $19 billion – and Hoffman is its biggest shareholder.

There Are Now 1 Billion Endorsements on LinkedIn

Media_httprack1mshcdn_kbwpx

There are now 1 billion Endorsements on LinkedIn, an impressive figure for a feature released just six months ago.

As the infographic below shows, some 50 million Endorsements are batted around the business-friendly social network each week and "strategic planning" is the most popular subject for an Endorsement.

Introduced in September, Endorsements represented a frictionless alternative to formal recommendations. Instead of going to the trouble of writing up a formal recommendation, you merely have to click a button to endorse someone.

The ease of use, however, has simultaneously made Endorsements ubiqutious and meaningless. However, LinkedIn is clearly pleased with its accomplishment.

Yahoo has faced world-wide backlash for this decision.

That's because many people have proved to be successful, despite not working in an office environment.

"Yours truly has never worked out of an office, and never will," Virgin founder Richard Branson wrote shortly after the Yahoo memo was leaked.

5 Keys of Successful Logo Design

Media_httpvanimgs3ama_qewqi

The best logos make an impact. They are memorable and they instantly evoke images of the brand with which they are associated. Think of the Golden Arches in the McDonald’s logo or the classic script in the Coca-Cola logo. Think of the peacock feathers in the NBC logo or the swoosh in the Nike logo.

On the other hand, bad logos are forgettable. They look unprofessional and they don’t tell you anything about the brand.

Creating a successful logo can influence the overall success of your brand. Whether you are a logo designer yourself or if you are looking to hire a designer to create your logo, it is important to understand the qualities of a great logo so you can get one that encourages the success of your business. Media_httpfreelancesw_ieach

FreelanceSwitch is chock full of promotion tips. We’ve given you ways to use email to get your message across, showed you techniques to nab hot clients, talked about how to build buzz, and we may even have helped you embrace cold-calling.

But sometimes, before you learn all the techniques to promote yourself as a business, you have to step out of your own way. As in, you have to get over your fear of self-promotion.

Think about it: How can you tackle putting your best foot out there if you’re insecure and anxious about how it will all go down. There’s not much sense in spending the time to promote yourself if you doubt what you’re doing. Freelancers may be able to mask our insecurities by working solo–or even working from home, alone like myself–but when it comes to promoting ourselves, it’s best done with confidence.

Exactly how far you want to grow your agency is a question of your own goals. You may have modest ambitions, like building up enough business to be able to afford some great health insurance. You may have bigger plans, like being able to bring home six figures a year, beyond what you need to pay everyone working for you.
