These days most major corporations have either provided a separate mobile website to serve their mobile audience or have provided a responsive web solution to cater to the variety of screen sizes.

As a web developer who is tasked with developing a mobile web solution it’s important to have as many testing tools as possible. Having multiple mobile testing tools available is never a bad thing.

Two Rats Communicate Brain to Brain

It's not quite telepathy, but it's the closest anyone has ever come to getting a mammal to read another mammal's mind.

A research team led by neurobiologist Miguel Nicolelis of Duke University has wired together the brains of two rats, allowing them transmit information between each other and cooperate.

The results, detailed in the journal Scientific Reports, could help improve the design of neural-controlled prosthetic devices. And perhaps more than that, they also show that one day we could network brains as well as computers, or communicate by translating neural activity in the brain into electronic signals.

BlackBerry is Testing Out a Money-Transfer System With BBM

While the fate of BlackBerry remains at the forefront of debates amongst gadget circles, the cellphone company is trying new things, doing what it can to remain in the ‘black,’ so to speak. On Tuesday, Bloomberg reports, BlackBerry is working on a wireless money-transferring service through their BlackBerry messenger application.

The ‘Money Messenger’ service is beginning a pilot project with Indonesian bank, PT Bank Permata (BNLI,) currently part-owned by Standard Chestered PLC (STAN.) BB is the leading smartphone brand in Indonesia, making it a good place to test out the service.

A day after Samsung and Visa penned a deal to begin working on wireless payment system payWave, the Canadian smartphone company hopes to quickly roll their service out to their 60 million worldwide BBM customers. With an estimate of 79 million BB users, the mobile money exchange program will hope to influence the one-third or so customers who don’t use BBM service to make the switch.

Clearly, we can see the future of monetary exchange probably lies in the abilities of our smartphones. Makes sense, right? Let’s see how it plays out.

Pinterest Is Testing A New Look

The site for "pinning" photographs and other images of interesting objects—think Tumblr, but organized thematically rather than chronologically—is testing out a new look, software engineer Vy Phan reports on the company blog.

The goal of the redesign (click the image to the right to enlarge it) is to make the homepage easier to navigate and to show more related images on the detail pages for a specific pinned image. That, in turn, should mean people spend more time on the site.

The US Military Tested a Tsunami Bomb That Could Rival the Nuclear Bomb

We've all seen the destruction that tsunamis can cause. It doesn't play around. But back in 1944, the US military wanted to play around with tsunamis in hope of creating a man made tsunami bomb—basically setting off 10 large blasts in the ocean to create a 33-foot tsunami that would pulverize and drown a city.

New Zealand author and filmmaker Ray Waru discovered these manmade tsunami bombs were set off in the top secret operation of "Project Seal" during World War II. Around 3,700 bombs were detonated during the testing and the tests revealed that a successful tsunami bomb would require "about 2 million kilograms of explosive arrayed in a line about five miles from shore." Not exactly chump change.

Over the past year, Red Robot Labs has discovered one major limitation in making games based on the real world: Laziness.

“Gamers are lazy,” said Pete Hawley, Red Robot Labs’ co-founder and chief product officer. “You can’t expect them to get off the couch.”

A year ago, the Mountain View, Calif., company attended the Penny Arcade Expo (a.k.a. PAX) in Seattle to launch its first game, Life is Crime. That weekend, three Red Robot employees hustled to make the convention a virtual game board, getting attendees to virtually commit more than 20,000 “crimes,” in addition to hospitalizing more than 1,000 people and stealing $35 million from real places.

Google Search Beats the Crap Out of Siri In 1600 Question Test

Pitting Google search against Siri using a monster 1600-question test shows how useful Siri really is: not at all. Google answered correctly 86 percent of the time. Siri achieved just 68 percent accuracy. At that point, it's not much better than a crystal ball.

We knew that Siri isn't very good. But this intense test shows just how ridiculous the gimmicky voice assistant could be.

The fact is that even Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has been saying this since the day Apple introduced the iPhone 4S with Siri. It just sucks. Siri as an independent product, before Apple acquired it, the Woz told us at the Gizmodo Gallery...

Google is reportedly planning to shake up the familiar layout of its search page. Spanish site Techno-Net has apparently gotten its hands on a short clip of a test.

The video shows the left-hand vertical menu with tabs like images, maps, videos, news, etc. shifted to the top, where it sits horizontally above search results. This tweak looks nice, but hopefully it's one that just stays in rumorland, because it why change something, even subtly, if it already works?

It's useful, you save time and you can brag to your friends how fast you finished the Game of Thrones books while those nincompoops impatiently wait every Sunday for it to air. But don't you want to know how fast you can read? Take this reading test to see.

Though its pretty much an advertisement to buy ereaders at Staples (or for Staples to collect research on reading speed), it's a fun little exercise to do. You read a passage from a book, answer a few questions (to prove that you read it) and it'll give you your words per minute. It'll show your performance on a scale (450 wpm being an avg college student, 1500wpm being a speed reader) and how fast you would be able to read famous books.
