5 Graphic Design Mistakes To Avoid
When I was younger I used to assume that if a sign was hanging up in a public space it must have passed a rigorous editing and testing phase before being let out the creative studio door. To my naive eye storefront signs, roadside billboards and corporate building logos were authoritative by virtue of someone having spent lots of money to have them professionally printed. I have since learned that my early thinking was quite misguided.
Nowadays I see graphic design in a different light. I recognize a clear distinction between sign material and sign content. A beautiful plank of expensive vintage timber can, sadly, play host to an unexceptional design.

There's A Security Flaw With Apple IDs That Puts Your Account At Risk
Update: Apple has shut down its "iForgot" password recovery page to deal with a security flaw, which is described below.
Original: Watch out, there's a security flaw that could let someone easily take over your Apple accounts, Chris Welch at The Verge reports.
If someone knows your email address and your date of birth they can reset your password. All it takes is a slight tweak of a URL on Apple's "iForgot" page.
Welch says there is a step-by-step guide floating around the Internet, though he didn't link to it to discourage people from actually doing it.
The 5 Worst UX Mistakes Websites Make
The user experience of websites has improved by leaps and bounds over the years, but there are still sites out there that may leave you asking, “What were they thinking?!”
From a design perspective, it’s easy to get caught up in internal squabbles (“No, no, THIS is the content that has to be front and center”) or distracted by tools or methods (“I say we use lean UX on this project”). When this happens, we often forget that at the end of it all waits a person who wasn’t in on all these decisions, and just wants to get the information they need, buy the product or be entertained for five minutes while waiting for the train.
In the hopes it will help us all avoid these pitfalls, here’s a list of the five worst UX mistakes that people still make in website design.

Hiring New Grads? Don’t Make These 3 Mistakes
If you’re hiring in the coming months, you very likely have at least one eye on the newest crop of potential future employees: soon-to-be-graduating college seniors.
New grads can be a great resource for companies of any size—they’re full of energy and new ideas and willing to get their hands dirty in their first real-world job.
But as you’re thinking about recruiting new grads this spring, take a peek at what things look like from the other side of the table.
College recruiting has some interesting—and sometimes unfortunate—parallels to dating in middle school. Students are “flirting” for the first time, and recruiters are all too often making the big mistakes their parents told them to avoid during early courtship.
As you’re interviewing new grads for their first gig, there are three rules to follow to make sure you don’t jump into the wrong relationship (or lose a great candidate).

Top 10 mistakes in handling website images and how to solve them
Images are a major part of any modern website. Images nowadays account to more than 60% of a website's total bandwidth. This is even more pronounced when dealing with cutting-edge web design. On an image rich social website employing a Pinterest-like layout, this number can reach upward of 85% (!).
Bandwidth is unfortunately a costly commodity. For high traffic websites, bandwidth will probably be responsible for the majority of your IT costs, easily surpassing hosting and storage costs. In addition, such a large volume of traffic takes time to consume, and so, when browsing your website, your visitors are likely to spend a lot of time waiting for images to load.
Looking at the IT costs from one end and visitor abandonment due to lengthy load times on the other, you would probably like to take a good look at how you manage your images online. When every second passing reduces your website's overall conversion and ultimately revenues - it makes perfect sense to want to optimize your image and image delivery as much as possible.

Worst Hiring Mistake Ever: Misrepresenting the Job
Listen up, hiring managers. A study from research firm Development Dimensions International revealed yesterday that many employers often misrepresent the finer details of their company and the open position during interviews, leaving many recruits eventually disappointed with their new job.
Specifically, the survey found that only 51% of new employees "felt confident in their decision to accept the job." DDI found this figure after surveying 2,300 new hires with an average age of 35.
"…[H]iring is a high-stakes interaction and managers are not necessarily capable of discerning what a candidate can really bring to a company. So they base it on gut instinct and a lot of times that gut instinct is wrong," Scott Erker, DDI’s vice president of select systems and co-author of the study, told The Wall Street Journal.

Big Mistakes that Could Sink Your Business
They say that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and when you relate this to business, there are many different ways you can interpret this cliché. For instance, you could use it to refer to your employees and co-workers, the laziest and the most unskilled of whom can bring the entire team’s morale and productivity down. Alternatively, you could also use this quote to refer to how the failure of a single piece of equipment can bring chaos to the schedule of entire production lines. For the purpose of this article, though, let us work under the idea that a single mistake can lead to a chain reaction which would eventually lead to the doom of your business. Here are a few examples.
