Futurist Ray Kurzweil has some ambitious plans for search at Google.

It's a system that Steve Wolff, one of the Internet's founding fathers, tells New Scientist "should be much more widely adopted." And China's got it baked in.

YouTube is getting rid of a promotional platform that was meant to offer easy access to third-party video editing apps – and that step irks at least one of YouTube’s partners.
The traffic sign assistance system currently offered in Mercedes-Benz’s S- and E-Class models uses a camera mounted on the inside of the front windscreen to identify speed restriction signs. This speed restriction information is relayed to the navigation system and displayed in the instrument cluster and in the map view to help prevent drivers exceeding the speed limit. Mercedes has now updated the system to also recognize no-overtaking zones and no-entry signs so as to prevent drivers from accidentally traveling in the wrong direction.
Engadget points out that Google has applied for a patent on a system to project images from its Google Glass computerized glasses to a number of surfaces.

Google seems to be preparing a major rethink of Google Wallet, its mobile-payment tool.
Instead of relying on a narrow list of smartphones and an unpopular wireless technology to make payments at retail outlets, Google is coming out with its own plastic card, according to Android Police, a specialty news site.
In a speech at a conference on October 22, Google Wallet chief Osama Bedier promised that "a new way to experience Google Wallet" would come out in November. That same day, Google's website was updated to say that a new version of Google Wallet was "coming soon." This may well be it.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has begun rolling out its new $1 billion biometric Next Generation Identification (NGI) system.
