Google Is Thinking About Putting A Projector On Its New Computerized Glasses

Media_httpstatic3busi_sbiyb

Engadget points out that Google has applied for a patent on a system to project images from its Google Glass computerized glasses to a number of surfaces.

Intellectual property geeks can read the full application here.

The patent explains a system that would allow for projecting a QWERTY keyboard and other buttons anywhere you might want to press them.

If this patent is realized, you might soon be dialing your next phone number by touching your forearm.

Stuffing a Projector in a Tablet Might Actually Be Awesome

Media_httpimggawkeras_oqxxf

When 3M started frankensteining its pico projectors into smartphones a few years ago as a proof of concept, it was novel, but really had no practical use in the real world. (Even for the enterprise world and its infinite powerpoint presentations). But seeing a projector built into Smart Devices' SmartQ U7 Android tablet has me full of ideas on how to use it.

Camera Projectors Finally Find a Useful Application

Media_httpimggawkeras_xsqaf

In what could be a far more useful application for projector-equipped cameras, researchers at Osaka University have created a prototype that projects a white border to show exactly what's in frame. Kind of like a laser scope for taking photos.

The ClippingLight camera also incorporates a gyro and motion sensor so the size of the frame can be adjusted by just rotating the camera in either direction. And since the photographer is able to keep their eyes on the scene instead of staring through a viewfinder or at an LCD display, they're able to frame and snap a shot faster than with a regular camera. The only caveat? Current compact projector technology sucks, so you'll be limited to using the ClippingLight system only in dark places and at close range.

Media_httpmashablecom_lbdmh

What may look like a pair of post-surgery sunglasses is actually the Epson Moverio BT-100 that is essentially a wearable micro-projector. The glasses can project movies, images and even websites to each eye, making the projected image size appear like an 80-inch display viewed from 5 meters away. The shades are also see-through, so you can still view your surrounding without being obstructed by the projected image.

Watch These Stunning 3D Projection Ads Bring Entire Cities To A Halt

The most jaw-dropping trend in advertising over the last two years has been the development of 3D projection mapping. The technique allows advertisers to use the facade of a building as a screen onto which images are projected, with the projection programmed to utilize the facade's features -- doors, windows, etc. -- in a mixture of real 3D objects and images.
