Psy's 'Gentleman' Sets Record for Most YouTube Views in Single Day

Korean pop star Psy had the bar raised high for his first song since "Gangnam Style" and, believe it or not, he's breaking records again.

In the first 24 hours after its debut, his video for the new song "Gentleman" — which launched April 14 on YouTube — was watched 38 million times, according to new YouTube stats. Yeesh, that's a lot.

Mobile Video Views Up 300% In 2012, With Tablets Driving The Charge With A 360% Increase

Adobe has released its Digital Video Benchmark for the U.S. for 2012, wherein the Digital Index team shows what it learned monitoring video performance throughout the year across digital platforms. The study compiles data from Adobe Marketing Cloud customers, scoring viewing habits and also monitoring ad performance. 2012 saw a massive increase in mobile viewership, according to Adobe’s numbers, though desktop still dominates when it comes to online video.

'Gangnam Style' Hits 1 Billion Views on YouTube

It's official: Psy's "Gangnam Style" is the first video ever to hit a billion views on YouTube.

For most mortals on video sharing networks, hitting the 1 million views milestone is a feat. For Psy's dance hymn, which was uploaded to YouTube on July 15, millions of views are racking up every hour. It took approximately three hours for the video to go from 995 million to a billion.

YouTube's Top 5 Channel Partners Saw 1.5 Billion Views in May

YouTube's top five corporate channels - which include music video distributor Vevo, video game network Machinima, and a new media company named Maker Studios - gathered a total of 1.5 billion views in May. This is good news for YouTube, which has struggled to find audiences and ad dollars for its premium channels.

Despite falling views in its seventh year, which YouTube maintains is intentional, the month of May saw growth for YouTube's corporate channels. Rounding out the top partner channel list are Warner Music Group and Fullscreen. The statistics and analytics firm Nielsen, which released May viewing data in a blog post yesterday, broke the numbers down further:

After tests with a handful of publishers, YouTube is offering pay-per-view options to publishers on its live-streaming service. The company said that it was in the process of rolling out live streaming to its partners.

YouTube reflected on its banner year today, announcing that it served over 1 trillion playbacks in 2011. "That's about 140 views for every person on the earth," YouTube's Rewind blog post says. YouTube saw record traffic and mobile growth this year. It gets 3 billion views per day, and video uploads have doubled since last year.
