There’s more to why we like music than just a catchy beat or an easy karaoke tune.

Music Is Still Too Expensive To Be Free, Too Free To Be Expensive
In this corner, we have recording artists - those beleagured believers clinging dearly to the notion that they can quit their day jobs, just like their tune-slinging forebears did. As many have pointed out, they don't make much per stream from even today's most popular streaming services - about $0.003 from iTunes Match and $0.001 from Spotify, according Josh Davidson, whose September 3 tweet sparked this latest round of speculation.

More Teens Now Listen To Music Through YouTube Than Any Other Source
ccording to Nielsen’s latest “Music 360” report, 48% of consumers in the U.S. still see radio as the dominant way to discover new music. For almost two-thirds of U.S. teenagers, however, Google’s YouTube is now a more important source of music than radio (54%), iTunes (53%) and CDs (50%).
Despite the growing popularity of Internet music services among teens, about a third of them still bought a CD in the last year and among all respondents, 55% said physical CDs are still a very or fairly good value.
““While younger listeners opt for technologically advanced methods , traditional methods of discovery like radio and word-of-mouth continue to be strong drivers,” said Nielsen SVP David Bakula in a canned statement today. “With so many ways to purchase, consume and discover great new music, it’s no wonder that the consumer continues to access and enjoy music in greater numbers.”

100 Famous Guitar Riffs - Video
In case you missed this, in a promotional video for the Chicago Music Exchange, Alex Chadwick plays 100 famous guitar riffs in one take, a chronological history of rock ‘n’ roll. The amazing part is that he recorded this in one take, seamlessly transitioning from one song to the next with an incredible amount of agility and grace. After listening a few times you might believe that this could be one twelve minute song and not 100 riffs. Try not looking at the video while it plays and see how many riffs you can name.

25 Creative Posters With Memorable Quotes From Music Lyrics
There are two kinds of songs: the ones that sends a strong message and the ones that are just rhymes on a beat. The first type on song is the one which will be forever remembered, just like a wise quote or a good motto. If you combine the lyrics with the idea of a poster, you’ll get an interesting mixture that will take the best from both worlds: the strong words and the bold design. This idea was brilliantly implemented by Mico, a very talented designer from London. You can see some of his creative work below, and if you want to check out even more awesome poster design, check out his website.

Songza Changes The Way You Discover Music
Pandora is fun when you know exactly what type of artist or song you want to listen to, but what if you're in a particular mood and want your playlist to reflect that?
Enter Songza.
Songza is quickly rising in popularity. The iPhone app is number 14 in the "top free" section of the App Store, while the iPad app is currently number 1 in its respective section.
GigaOm reports that "[Unlike Pandora] Songza, uses humans — about 25 in total — to create playlists and then uses an algorithm to help you discover those playlists."

Little-Known Second Verses of 10 Children’s Songs
When I was researching a Quick 10 earlier this week, I did a lot of investigating into children’s songs and nursery rhymes. And I discovered something: either I had a really short attention span as a kid and never made it past the first verse of a song (which is entirely possible), or there are some obscure lyrics to the songs we all know and love. Here are a few of them.

Pictogram Music Posters of Famous Songs Throughout The Ages
So, I thought I’d continue with the pictograms, seems like I can’t leave them alone at the moment (big surprise). This time I made some posters depicting songs, which leaves me a lot of new unexplored ground. There will be more of these, as long as I’m happy with the results (I’ll try to be more picky this time, and select the really good ones). Again, let me know if I’m getting boring or too simple.

How to: create your own iPhone ringtones
Apple made headlines last week by rolling out a line of iTunes-exclusive ringtones featuring music by The Beatles—a move that excited some Beatles fans and enraged others. As with Apple's other ringtone offerings, the tones are sold separately from the full version of the song for $1.29 apiece and only include a small clip of the song chosen by Apple. If you already own the song or want the full version for your own music-listening pleasure, you'll have to pay twice.
