Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos recovers Apollo spacecraft engines from the bottom of the ocean

Media_httpcdn1sbnatio_wambg

Last year, Amazon CEO and space enthusiast Jeff Bezos discovered the underwater whereabouts of Apollo 11's F-1 engines and announced his plans to bring them up to the surface. Now, nearly a full 12 months later, Bezos' team has recovered a number of F-1 engine parts and brought them out of the ocean — his blog goes into full detail, with a variety of great photos and a quick video showing the underwater recovery. Bezos says that his team recovered enough "major components" to put together displays of two flown F-1 engines. "We want the hardware to tell its true story, including its 5,000 mile per hour re-entry and subsequent impact with the ocean surface," Bezos writes. Unfortunately, many of the serial numbers from the recovered parts are missing, which will make determining which exactly Apollo mission the parts are from quite a bit more difficult.

Are steam cars poised for an epic comeback?

Media_httpwwwextremet_dzeie

Once upon a time, the steam engine reigned supreme — first in trains and heavy tractors, as you well know, but eventually in cars as well. It’s quite hard to fathom today, but at the turn of the 20th century, more than half the cars in the US were steam-powered. The steam engine was so advanced that, in 1906, a steam car called the Stanley Rocket even held land speed record — a heady 127 mph!

Now, you might think that the steam car was only a success because internal combustion engines (ICE) didn’t exist yet — but in actual fact, steam cars and ICE cars were developed contemporaneously. Because engineers already had 100 years of steam engine experience, though, the steam car had a rather large head start. While hand-cranked ICEs were breaking the arms of hapless operators, by 1900 steam cars were already highly automated — and, with no clutch or gearbox (steam provides constant pressure, unlike the piston strokes of an ICE), very easy to drive. The one caveat, of course, was that you had to wait a few minutes for the boiler to heat up.

SEO Companies: Should You Hire One?

Media_httpcdninstants_azfvm

When you type out any search word, Google or other search engines display sites that they believe are authoritative and relevant to the words typed in. The relevance is measured by making an analysis of the content in the words. The authoritative aspect is measured based on the quality of the page content, the number of pages linked to the page and so on.

Engine Design, we all rely on it, but we don’t always realize it, or see it! Hidden beneath the hood of your car (and many other things like boats, planes, trains, etc.) hides a magnificent engineering marvel known as the engine! We don’t really put much thought into what we rely on to survive but maybe we should! As Designers & Engineers it is important to know how it works if you want to build a better version and make the future better with that product for everyone. It is important to learn the history of such things, and find out how it works because someone else may not have done that and continued with an inferior design and thus held society back.

The Periodic Table of SEO

Media_httpcdnbitrebel_bolxa

Simplifying SEO is as hard as trying to make a pocket-sized schematic of a computer. Sure, you can do it, but it takes a lot of work and you need to stay dedicated to it for a long time. That is exactly the case with SEO. You have to know what you are doing and try new things. Sometimes things just won’t work out, and that is why trial and error is so important. If things don’t turn out favorable for your site then refine and redo. That is the only way to rank higher when people are searching for things in your niche. I could sit here all day long for a whole month just writing articles about search engine optimization, and I would still not deplete the bottomless hole of factors. However, there are some things that can simplify things quite a lot.

Media_httpcdninstants_yfjbs

As you may know, SEO stands for “Search engine optimization”. It is a technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the millions of other sites in response to a search query. Enhancing SEO is the best way to improve your website and increase its visibility in search engines.

Search engine optimization is the holy grail of getting more traffic. Placing high in search engine rankings for prime keywords related to your niche could send thousands of visitors to your site on a regular basis.

Like several other fields of this world, SEO consists of thousands of questions, which have made this field quite confusing. In the starting days of SEO, everything was easy and direct. The techniques were not that complex and it doesn’t require a lot of time to make someone aware of its techniques. However, as time passed by, search engines launched more complex tactics which lead the field to these confusions.

Remember When Google Was A Search Engine?

Media_httptctechcrunc_vafho

The lineup of products announced at Google io last week was disorienting: JellyBean, Nexus 7, Nexus Q, Google Glass, an updated Google Maps, Google Now and so on. It was about as disorienting as reading and navigating through the entire Wikipedia entry for Google or getting stuck in that “YouTube” parody loop where you can’t find the thing you’re searching for because there are so many viral spoofs of it.

Google now encrypts your search traffic when you’re logged in, but this only prevents third-parties from snooping on your search traffic – it doesn’t prevent Google from tracking you.
