A Visual History Of The Photograph [Infographic]
We are in a new era of photography. The Mobile Revolution has fundamentally changed the nature of how photos are taken, where they are taken, by whom they are taken and, most importantly, how often they are taken. People now take photos of everything and share them to other phones, social media sites and all over the Web. You could argue that the rise of Facebook was predicated on photos and Instagram is now the de facto photo app for millions of would-be photographers.
The photo has come a long way. From the camera obscura of French inventor Nicéphore Niépce in 1822 to the daguerreotype from Louis Daguerre in 1837, the “Brownie” camera around 1900 and later the invention of the Polaroid in 1947. Photo quality has increased as cameras have become cheaper and more widespread. One of the first camera phones came from Kyrocera in 1999 and by the mid-2000s, almost every flip phone on the planet had a decent camera attached to it.

The Periodic Table of SEO
Simplifying SEO is as hard as trying to make a pocket-sized schematic of a computer. Sure, you can do it, but it takes a lot of work and you need to stay dedicated to it for a long time. That is exactly the case with SEO. You have to know what you are doing and try new things. Sometimes things just won’t work out, and that is why trial and error is so important. If things don’t turn out favorable for your site then refine and redo. That is the only way to rank higher when people are searching for things in your niche. I could sit here all day long for a whole month just writing articles about search engine optimization, and I would still not deplete the bottomless hole of factors. However, there are some things that can simplify things quite a lot.

Hello? A Visual History of the Phone
The foundational phone—Alexander Graham Bell’s “speaking telephone,” exhibited at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia—was less a product than a lab experiment in a box: A needle transmitting, via sulfuric acid, the vibrations of the voice to an electromagnetic receiver. Apart from looking of its age—you catch a whiff of Victorian steampunk here—there’s little to indicate what it does (Bell’s own patent referred to “improvements in telegraphy”). The flared tubular column could be a speaking tube, or it could be the megaphone of some new-fangled Victrola.

Visual Hierarchy in Mobile Design
According to the first definition in dictionary.com, hierarchy is defined as “any system of persons or things ranked one above another”. Based on that definition, visual hierarchy would then simply be the visual system of ranked elements, one above another – or how the visual elements rank and relate to each other. Some elements on the page have more visual weight than others, these elements grab the attention of your eye and draw focus on them.
Since hierarchy means a “system of things ranked…” this indicates that the system of design elements must be “ranked” in order of heavier weight to lighter weight which hints that a good hierarchical design is more than just black and white. There must be other elements that progress from one extreme to the other. This visual progression from heavy to light, guides the viewer through the design and if designed right, you can guide the viewer right to where you want them.
