5 Mantras That Will Help You Take Better Photos

Media_httpcdndesignin_ghhph

What’s the best way to improve your photos? In my experience, I’ve found that improving my photographs begins with a good frame of mind and a set of philosophies.

The ease with which we can take photos nowadays may make some people believe that it’s easy to produce a good photo. Or that it’s easy to be a good photographer.

But most of us who have tried to emulate the photos we see in magazines and galleries have discovered the sobering fact that taking a good photo is a lot harder than it seems.

For novice photographers, perhaps even more disappointing is that they quickly realize that their expensive DSLR camera — although infused with extraterrestrial technology and blessed by the high elves of Rivendell — is not going to guarantee great photos...

Samsung: No One Is Buying Microsoft's Surface, Windows 8 Isn't Very Good

Media_httpstatic5busi_kdonh

More bad news for Microsoft and its new operating system, Windows 8.

The president of Samsung's memory chip division, Jun Dong-soo, had a lot of negative comments about Microsoft in a meeting with reporters. The Korea Times transcribed his quotes.

First, he said the obvious: "The global PC industry is steadily shrinking despite the launch of Windows 8."

Then he added this: "I think the Windows 8 system is no better than the previous Windows Vista platform."

Vista is considered to be one of the biggest disasters for Microsoft. It's not good for a partner to compare the new Windows to Vista.

He then added even more: "MS’s rollout of its Windows Surface tablet is seeing lackluster demand ... Meanwhile, previous vigorous pitches by Intel and MS for thinner ultra-books simply failed and I believe that’s mostly because of the less-competitive Windows platform."

This wouldn't be so bad if it were just one guy talking. But, he's just the latest to pile on. Executives at Asus, Acer, and Fujitsu have all had bad things to say about the state of Windows.

Media_httptctechcrunc_trixe

The steadfast libertarian captain, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, is bidding farewell to Congress and has a call-to-arms for his legions of tech-savvy followers: The Internet is the savior of liberty. “The internet will provide the alternative to the government/media complex that controls the news and most political propaganda. This is why it’s essential that the internet remains free of government regulation,” he said, in his farewell address. After 23 years in America’s most esteemed body [Pointless editorializing], Paul is leaving his work to a vocal minority of small government digital warriors.

“I have thought a lot about why those of us who believe in liberty, as a solution, have done so poorly in convincing others of its benefits,” he admitted. “History has shown that the masses have been quite receptive to the promises of authoritarians which are rarely if ever fulfilled.”

“Personally, I would say that the biggest preconceived idea is that a project will take however long it takes to sketch it up, whereas nine times out of ten, it is the concept and not the implementation that takes time. Hence ‘just come up with a few quick logos’ being a total oxymoron.” - Anneke Short

The 25 Most Notable Quotes in Tech History

Media_httptechnologiz_iwmed

It’s not love, war, or baseball. But over the years some memorable things have been said about technology. Some have been memorably eloquent; others are unforgettably shortsighted, wrongheaded, or just plain weird. Let’s celebrate them, shall we?

A few ground rules for the list that follows: I considered only statements attributable to a specific individual, which ruled out most ad slogans (“Think Different”) and many durable Internet memes (“You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike”). I did, however, include individuals who happened to be fictional, or canine, or inanimate. I also let a couple of quotes slip in that are not strictly speaking about technology, though neither would exist without it–one from 1876, and one from earlier this decade. Sue me.
