Real Life Tetris by Artist Michael Johansson

Media_httpwwwhuhmagaz_raaiq

Created by contemporary Swedish artist Michael Johansson, these "real life Tetris" installations see other people's unwanted objects methodically and painstakingly packed together into neat, colour co-ordinated blocks. Inspired by real life coincidences, such as two people passing each other dressed in the same outfits, Johansson has been constructing the sculptures since 2007, installing them in public areas like tight alleyways and strangely shaped doorways as well as showing them at group and solo exhibitions all over the world. Speaking to PINCH magazine, Johansson said...

Photoshop in Real Life

Media_httpwwwyouthede_ifall

Wouldn’t it be nice if Photoshop was real? All those blemishes will be gone with just a pinch, that annoying eye bag will be gone in just a matter of seconds and finally no-one will have to spend millions and millions of money to buy beauty products anymore. While many are still wishing that someone should make a Photoshop or at least a patch tool in real life — Flóra Borsi is a Hungary based photographer who did a mini-series of what would it be like if Photoshop was real and how would people use it. The resulting images are hilarious and very well thought of, we are now thinking that Adobe should get her to do a print ad for Photoshop.

60 Genuinely Vintage Label Designs for your Inspiration

Media_httpinspiration_ljlfh

Vintage Label Design is the base of many modern logos, designs and illustrations. Like it or not, design has travelled backwards in time and landed somewhere in the early 1900′s. Whilst many designers and developers are still keeping with the time and executing some beautiful modern and clean creations, many others are referring back to our roots and bringing back some incredible old school designs and the textures that they bring with them from sitting around for a few decades.

Learning Real Life Lessons in the Virtual World

Media_http6mshcdncomw_fxutj

Last week someone called my ten year-old daughter a bitch, to her face, sort of. She wasn’t in the halls at school or in the playground; she was in the hottest destination around, where fake ID wasn’t necessary and her bright pink hair was all the rage. She was on WeeWorld.com, one of many virtual worlds where kids create avatars and engage in social activity with “friends.”

This is not the first time my daughter has come up against nasty behavior online. At ten years old both of my daughters have been actively participating in virtual worlds meant for kids for the past 4 years. They started on Webkinz and Club Penguin, then progressed to Moshi Monsters, Bearvilleand Fantage. They tend to bop between worlds, forgetting one for a while and then returning months later to rediscover the old and familiar while taking in the new. They have different friend lists –- some populated with real life friends –- and take their possessions and self-built environments very seriously. They have spent hours over the years decorating their virtual spaces, trading goods, earning and changing outfits, and caring for pets. These are not games for them, but in many ways an extension of their identities. And it’s just as fluid and evolving as their real world childhood identities.

7 Inspiring Examples of Real-Time Marketing in Action

Media_httpbloghubspot_aqfys

Real-time marketing means reacting in real, or near-real time. It’s about relevant messaging, and it's achieved in social channels by listening to and anticipating customer needs.

Paid media (advertising), earned media (content), and owned media (social and PR) are rapidly converging into just … media. Digital channels have long enabled real time optimization of display advertising, but as social listening and monitoring tools proliferate nearly as quickly as social media channels, real-time matters more to marketers. This is true not just because of social media, but also because social is now what provides the creative impetus for paid and owned media. Based on research my colleague Jeremiah Owyang and I very recently jointly published, the new real-time marketing work cycle looks something like this...

The Real Value of a Facebook Like

Media_httpwwwmastermi_boblc

Trying to qualify the value of a Facebook Like for a given brand has been shown to be an incredibly elusive and often frustrating exercise. An exercise many brand managers and marketing managers would say ends more often than not, in futility.

Sure, having that large number of Facebook Likes is always great for the ego while standing around the water cooler with the brand managers and marketers – but what is the inherent value?

What good are all these Likes if it doesn’t correlate to increased revenue?

Two recent studies have shed some light on what the value of a Facebook Like truly is:
“The Facebook Factor” via Forrester and the “Power of a Like 2” the sequel to comScore’s “Power of a Like” released last year.

8 things that separate the real entrepreneurs from the posers

An uphill battle ... entrepreneurs must have a full commitment to an idea.

How believable are you as an entrepreneur? Lots of people say they are entrepreneurs, but in truth are small business owners, or unwilling to take true entrepreneurial risk. Or they want a foot in both camps: a full or part-time job and a venture on the side, which rarely works.

Pie Face co-founder Wayne Homschek recently wrote that investors judge entrepreneurs on their commitment to good ideas. That is true. Less considered are the various aspects of entrepreneurial “believability” and the concept of “skin in the game”.

This is a critical issue for entrepreneurs who need to raise capital, persuade larger companies to buy their products, or get good staff to take a risk and join an unknown venture. In early-stage companies, investors are essentially investing in people, so they need to know those people are worth it...

Real-life Avatar: The first mind-controlled robot surrogate

Media_httpwwwextremet_khpng

An Israeli student has become the first person to meld his mind and movements with a robot surrogate, or avatar. Situated inside an fMRI scanner in Israel, Tirosh Shapira has controlled a humanoid robot some 2000 kilometers (1250 miles) away, at the Béziers Technology Institute in France, using just his mind.

The fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) reads his thoughts, a computer translates those thoughts into commands, and then those commands are sent across the internet to the robot in France. The system requires training: On its own, an fMRI can simply see the real-time blood flow in your brain (pictured below right). Training teaches the system that a particular “thought” (blood flow pattern) equates to a certain command. In this case, when Shapira thinks about moving forward or backward, the robot moves forward or backward; when Shapira thinks about moving one of his hands, the robot surrogate turns in that direction.

60+ Mind-Blowing (Hyper) Photo-Realistic Paintings

Media_httpcdninstants_nqewh

Watercolor is considered the most difficult painting media because of technique, control and time factors. But in the marketplace, usually watercolors are less expensive than oil paintings.
