The Star Was franchise has inspired literally countless art pieces over the years, and yet somehow we are still able to find more creative pieces hitting the scene. David transformed some of our favorite characters from Star Wars into sports teams that hail from the character’s origins in the movies. The collection includes Tusken City Raiders, Mon Calamari Admirals, Planet Hoth Wampas, Darkside Emperors, Dagobah Swamp Force, Forest Moon Chiefs, Tatooine Sand Crawlers, Republic Rebels, and who could forget the Desert County Droids. Disney acquires Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, plans more Star Wars movies

Media_httpwwwblogcdnc_egjbm

Disney is already one of the biggest media companies around, and it's now set to become even bigger. The company announced late today that it's acquiring Lucasfilm Ltd., currently 100 percent owned by founder George Lucas, for $4.05 billion in a cash and stock deal. That of course includes the rights to both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones film franchises, as well as Lucasfilm properties like Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound. What's more, the press release announcing the deal also confirmed that Disney is now targeting 2015 for a release of Star Wars: Episode 7, and that its "long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years." No word yet on a proper release of the original, original trilogy.

Incredible Star Wars Propaganda Posters

Media_httpimgurcomh4j_ssxrf

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the artist responsible or if these posters were available for purchase. However, I did find some really fascinating Star Wars items, including a gigantic, room-sized mural of all the Star Wars characters, a 6 foot Storm Trooper decal, a beautiful canvas print of the original Star Wars characters, and the Turkish placard for Empire Strikes Back.

STAR WARS 35th Anniversary: Timeline (Infographic)

Media_httpinewsaramac_pfdbv

More than a mere blockbuster, the Star Wars franchise became a record-setting media empire. Six live-action films and a computer-animated movie have filled theaters. An animated Star Wars TV series has been on the air for four years, with a fifth season set to debut in the fall; a live-action series, “Star Wars: Underworld,” is in preproduction. Profits from licensed merchandise have dwarfed box office revenue, and an estimated $20 billion worth of toys, clothing, prop replicas and other memorabilia have been sold since 1977.

It all began in the early 1970s, when young filmmaker George Lucas wanted to bring back “Flash Gordon,” a space hero serial from the 1930s, as a feature film. Rights to the property could not be secured, so instead, Lucas decided to make a new fantasy film in the same spirit of swashbuckling adventure.

It's Star Wars day. May the 4th be with you, always, and all that. Nick McKaig, the man who awesomely sung The Simpsons' theme a capella and was later featured on a series episode, made this stunning rendition of John Williams' main theme.

Rare Behind the Scenes Photos of ‘Star Wars’

Media_httpassetsflavo_iodjw

Many moviegoers count Star Wars as the first feature film they ever saw that truly captured the magic of cinema and made them a bona fide film geek. Lucas and his team pioneered never before seen special effects, leaving audiences in awe of his epic fantasy world in space where creatures walked and talked alongside humans, and brave characters made you believe they could conquer an entire galaxy. Would a peek behind the scenes of Lucas’ universe make you appreciate the movie even more? Website Theager put our question to the test, by sharing a set of candid images taken on set of the 1977 film. The photos reveal how Lucas and his special effects team created several iconic scenes in the movie, who the faces were behind the famous costumes, and a few funny moments (see: Jabba’s Gamorrean guard picking its nose) — and a few unintentionally funny ones (like pics of Rebel X-wing fighter pilots that resemble a bunch of construction workers chowing down on lunch). Check out the rare, silly, and magical images in our gallery below.

6 Freelancing Tips from Han Solo

Media_httpfreelancesw_chcas

Unlike some couples, my husband actually reads some of the blog posts I write for FreelanceSwitch. Which makes me really happy considering my own parents hardly read the articles I write for the regional magazine I work for. Heck, Shane even reposts some of my blog posts on his Facebook page! What a guy.

So when I came across this Forbes.com blog post about the career lessons you can learn from Han Solo, I knew I had to write about it. Shane loves Star Wars (and I love Harrison Ford) so this blog post is dedicated to them both.
