Marvel unveils pictures for "Phase Two"
Almost a year after phase one culminated with the successful production of The Avengers, Marvel has released a swath of new photos revealing some of their plans for Phase Two. Fans who bought the new “Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray box set” were directed to BattleofNewYork.net, where they were given exclusive access to a five-minute preview of Phase Two, along with a look behind the scenes and a treasure trove of concept images.

Marvel Project Gamma: Comic Books Just Got Their Own Soundtracks

Marvel's new Project Gamma is the answer to a pretty simple question: What if comics had their own soundtracks?
Simply, Project Gamma adds music to comics. But not like a standard soundtrack (Marvel calls it "adaptive audio" and compares it to a score, actually). It adds musical elements and occasionally sound effects as you turn panel to panel or page to page, and it does it dynamically, instead of looping the audio. That means that if you flip to the next panel mid-bar, the software will wait to transition until the next bar. It sounds really smooth as you use it, even as you go backwards through panels and the audio is rolled back. There will be two mix types—for panel viewing and full-page—but we didn't get to hear the full page version.
The goal here is to add emotional resonance to comics—the way you tense up when ominous musical cues come up, or swell as the the-hero-is-winning-now notes hit—and to do it at your own pace, without disrupting your reading (which is why none of the music has lyrics). Audio shifts as you move scene to scene, from character to character. A heavier beat might drop as a big fight starts. Ron Perazza, who came onto Marvel for this project, says, "You might see audio cues that are associated with a specific villain foreshadow his appearance later in an issue."

10 Marvel DC Superhero Mashups

If you have been following Toptenz.net you might know that we publish our fair share of comic book related lists. I still find time to see what’s going on at the Xavier’s School for Mutants, The Daily Planet and the Avenger’s Mansion when I can. Rather than publish just another comic book list, (we seem to have gone overboard recently) I thought it would be fun to showcase original artwork. I found some artists who were willing to follow my bizarre instructions: create a new superhero character that is a mashup of a Marvel superhero and a DC superhero.

Marvel Launches Augmented Reality Comics

Marvel has announced its new ‘ReEvolution’ initiative with an augmented reality app called Marvel AR that will include digital extras for readers and a digital-only imprint called Infinite Comics, which will offer comics that tie-in with print titles.

Marvel Comics On iPad
I'm excited.
Marvel just launched several of its most popular graphic novels in Apple's iBook store on iPad.
If you haven't experienced comics on the iPad or other tablet, you're definitely missing out.
Marvel and DC each have their own apps, but there are some great third-party comic book readers such as Comixology and Comic Zeal that you should try too.
