Personally, I think that people use too frequently terms as branding and rebranding, redesign, or brand identity. Say goodbye to tax-free shopping! Yesterday, the Senate voted for a bill that if legalized, will take away a nice perk we’ve all taken for granted while shopping online. This bill is called the Marketplace Fairness Act, which would force online retailers to tack on a sales tax for all online purchases. The bill will be voted on in the Senate for a final time on May 6.
The bill would change a 1992 law that didn’t require online-only retailers to pay a sales tax in states that require retailers to charge a sales tax unless this retailer had a brick and mortar store in the United States. Right now, how online shopping works is that if you’re shopping for something on BestBuy.com and Best Buy has a physical shop in your state, you’ve had to pay your state’s sales tax. However, if you bought something from Etsy, and the seller didn’t have a brick-and-mortar location, you didn’t have to pay the tax. If the proposed legislature passes, you will start paying that tax. With this bill, the state you live in will collect taxes for everything you buy online.

Baidu’s 1Q2013 net income increased 8.5 percent to $328.9 million (2.043 billion RMB), short of the $354.9 million (2.19 billion yuan) expected by analysts polled by Bloomberg. Total revenue rose 40 percent from $961 million (5.97 billion RMB), missing the 5.99 billion RMB analysts expected.
Samsung Electronics made an operating profit of 8.78 trillion won ($7.9 billion) in the first quarter of 2013, matching its guidance and representing a more than 50 percent improvement on its performance last year. Revenues were 52.87 trillion won ($47.6 billion), and net profit was 7.15 trillion won ($6.45 billion). The company said strong smartphone sales coupled with reduced marketing expenses helped boost its IT & Mobile Communications division to revenues of 32.82 trillion alone. We're always big fans of up-and-coming teen photographers here on My Modern Met, but 14-year-old photographer Zev (aka fiddle oak) has got to be one of the youngest talents we've ever come across. The Natick, Massachusetts-based teen photographer's portfolio exhibits skills beyond his years.
Zev manages to present a variety of techniques in his collection of images that lean towards the surreal in his self-portraits, which also overlap with his ongoing Little Folk series. A common theme in these works is to play with size ratio. By shrinking himself down for his imaginative photos, Zev takes the viewer along on a magical journey of rediscovering the world around us where blades of grass stand at equal height, a leaf can be used as an umbrella, and an acorn makes a suitable seat. His self-portraits also show just how young he is, making it all the more astounding that he's capable of producing such quality pictures.

In terms of what activities Web users are engaging in, in the first quarter 2013 Experian Marketing Services found that U.S. mobile Internet users spent the greatest percentage of their mobile Web time using email, at a 23% share of time spent. Social networking came in second, garnering 15% of time spent on the mobile Internet. Interestingly, travel occupied a greater share of time on the mobile Internet (9%) versus the desktop (1%).
