14-Year-Old Photographer's Amazingly Surreal Self Portraits

Media_httpapiningcom8_bqmij

We're always big fans of up-and-coming teen photographers here on My Modern Met, but 14-year-old photographer Zev (aka fiddle oak) has got to be one of the youngest talents we've ever come across. The Natick, Massachusetts-based teen photographer's portfolio exhibits skills beyond his years.

Zev manages to present a variety of techniques in his collection of images that lean towards the surreal in his self-portraits, which also overlap with his ongoing Little Folk series. A common theme in these works is to play with size ratio. By shrinking himself down for his imaginative photos, Zev takes the viewer along on a magical journey of rediscovering the world around us where blades of grass stand at equal height, a leaf can be used as an umbrella, and an acorn makes a suitable seat. His self-portraits also show just how young he is, making it all the more astounding that he's capable of producing such quality pictures.

Media_httpwwwgraphicm_btrhh

What does portrait photography refers to? It is an old concept in photography designed to take photo for a person with focus on the face. While the person may not be the only element in the photograph, he or she still should be the main object in the composition.

His work will appear in a number of group shows later this year at Würth and the Arts and Museum Dr. Guislain in Gent, and you can see much more of his work at Galerie Voss.

20 Lovely Creative Ideas for Family Portraits

Media_httpinspirebeec_odfhc

Photography marks the memories of a lifetime, preserving them forever. Photography can be all very fun and glamorous when it comes to shooting models, but it is a whole different story when it comes to shooting family portraits. Family portraits can be of couples, children, child with parent, the whole family and even the extended bunch of relatives. Fortunately for families and their photographers, times have moved well past your conventional frames where every member of the family is wearing a tight smile with the whole family fake posing a picture perfect visual hierarchy. Modern times allow us to experiment with family portraits that are far more personal, comfortable and memorable by the constructive communication between the family and their photographer. The best family portraits ever taken are the ones that aren’t strictly planned or instructed, instead casually light and natural. If you’re the photographer, the more your client family manages to enjoy themselves and get comfortable, the better the shoot will go. If you’re the family, the more open minded and free you keep your options, the more memorable and satisfying the experience will be as well as the results!

Screw Artwork by Andrew Myers

Media_httpinspiration_bmqfo

Since his early childhood, Andrew Myers has been artistically influenced by European life and culture. His exposure to modern continental living and classical architecture prompted the universal and classical themes, yet modern design found in his artwork.

At the age of 20, Myers applied to the Art Institute of Southern California (now known as the Laguna College of Art and Design); with no previous art training, he was accepted based upon the natural talent his application portfolio evidenced. The young artist developed his skills through advanced figurative sculpture and accelerated painting curriculum.

While these two and a half years of creative training provided Myers with the basic working knowledge of the artistic field, it was his drive, passion, and leap of faith into work as a full time artist that allowed him to cultivate his particular style. Myers blends modern material with classical figurative technique featuring a universal subject matter that is prevalent throughout his work. Apart from the screw art you will see below, Andrew also creates paintings, sculptures, and commissions. Enjoy!

25 Hyper Realistic Oil Portraits and Still Life Paintings by Nikolai Shurygin

Media_httpwebneelcomd_aopsb

Nikolai Shurygin's works are in private collections, located in Russia, Italy, USA, Germany, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky local museum (Russia). During 10 years the painter has been studying multilayered painting which secrets were lost in the beginning of XIX. This unique technique was used by flemish painters as well as russian painters such Kiprensky, Levitsky, Borovikovsky and many others. The uniqueness of the technique consists in the point that every layer of paint is visible through the layer above. Using this technique the artists achieved the incredible realism of depicted subject whether a human face or any texture - silver, gold, brocade, fur, glass, etc. The term of producing a portrait or a still-life in this technique is from 4 to 12 months. Due to the complicated process of the painting the artist's exhibition activity is not frequent.

The Humorous Scotch Tape Portrait Series by Wes Naman

Media_httpwwwgraphicd_ivkpx

This series is a proof that a well-executed idea has the power to change your perspective regarding anything. It may strike you in a grim situation or in a moment of hilarity but if you can translate that thought into physical reality, it may bring unexpected yet amazing results.

Photographer Wes Naman had a similar stroke of genius in the middle of a gift-wrapping session with his assistant Joy Godfrey, when the lady accidently put a piece of scotch tape on her nose and ended up with an awkward expression. Naman did the same to his lips trying to be hilarious.

Stylish Illustrations of AliceX

Media_httpimgsabduzee_hhwaf

It's been a while since the last time I checked DeviantArt. It is always a nice place to find design inspiration. In this particular instance I was looking for some stylish illustrations for a personal project when I stumbled upon the work of Alice X. Zhang. Alice is a full time freelance illustrator from the United States. Her illustrations are the definition of bold and are easily recognizable by the saturation of red used throughout the majority of her work making me reminiscent of the 80s. There's also nice usage of brush splatters and textures to give her work a personality all its own.

Emotional Portraits by Andy Goodwin

Andy Goodwin has enough savvy and experience to know better. He knows what works, what is never going to work and what is always worth trying. Andy is passionately anchored to the idea that making great pictures is a privilege and a pleasure. He is equal parts artist and scientist (with a touch of therapist whenever required). His approach is efficient, while never crowding out the prospect of serendipity, including the purposeful providence only a seasoned, wide-minded photographer can create. Andy makes a point of making people, sets and situations comfortable and even fun… yes, we just said "fun".
