Building a Small Business You Can Sell

Media_httpwwwinccomup_ffdhf

Sometimes I encounter entrepreneurs who think that a successful business sale boils down to luck--simply running into the right buyer at the right time. Although identifying the right buyer is definitely an important part of the process, veteran entrepreneurs know that there is nothing random about a profitable small business sale.

In my experience as general manager of one of the world's most heavily trafficked business-for-sale marketplaces, the most successful business sales combine ample amounts of strategy, planning and hard work (and sometimes, even a little luck). In fact, the businesses that sell most quickly and for the highest amounts are the product of a long-term effort by the owner to build up the value of their business, eventually making it much more attractive to potential buyers.

I recently interviewed Lipson and he gave me his top four tips for building a business to sell.

10 Great Places to Sell Your Web Design Work

Media_httpcdndesignmo_bozav

If someone is creating a new web design from initial step, it would be productive for him but at the same time it would also be time consuming. In order to make more money without spending a lot of time, selling of a web design as a theme or a template would be the easiest as well as the best option.

Most of the web designers take the responsibility to sell the themes or templates but the fact is that it is difficult to sell the template or theme on his own than by selling it through different sites as these template selling sites have a wide range of different web designers. Another fact is that the buyers usually visit a particular site & analyze the template quickly rather than searching for the theme here & there.

A Newbie's Guide To Selling Online [Infographic]

Media_httpwebtoolfeed_qgehf

Are you looking to sell your products on the internet but don’t know where to start? Well here’s an infographic from CPC Strategy, a shopping feed management company, that will show you how and give you a few laughs along the way too. “A Humorous Guide To Selling Products Online” is a flow chart that starts us innocently enough with a man kicking over a taped box. “Are you just trying to get rid of old stuff?” And the journey begins.

The flow chart takes us through the different online options for selling our products and lists prominent websites such as Ebay and iTunes, but also gives us lesser known options like Yardsellr and Etsy. The infographic is colorful and visually enticing which helps to keep our attention along the way. Even a novice can find their way through the chart, and after a few chuckle-induced stops (Are you in a band? Are you any good?) you arrive at your destination.

Rumor: RIM to Sell Handset Business

Media_httpimggawkeras_rrece

The Sunday Times is reporting that RIM is planning to split its handset and messaging network into two separate companies, then sell off the ill-fated BlackBerry hardware business.

As part of the move, the newspaper suggests that RIM would keep its messaging and data networks—including BBM, BIS, and BES—in-house, and then license them out to third parties. That's a theory that's been floated before, but never come to fruition.

The news comes on the back of a strategic review carried out by RIM in conjunction with RBC and JP Morgan. Though The Sunday Times does not explicitly cite any sources in its report, it does suggest that Facebook or Amazon may both prove to be "potential buyers" of the hardware wing.

Even With A New CEO, RIM Has 'No Intent' To Sell The Company

Media_httpstatic8busi_ggipu

At the end of the Wall Street Journal's story on RIM's CEOs stepping down, "a person familiar with the matter" says, "There is no intent to put the company up for sale."

Pretty vague language there. Sounds like RIM would sell if it got the right offer. It probably just hasn't come along yet.

(And from RIM's perspective, it probably won't come for a while. New CEO or not, the company still thinks its worth a lot more than what its market cap reflects.)
