These Are the Best Internet Service Providers

Media_httpimggawkeras_fbnfi

If you're looking for the fastest, most reliable internet service provider, here you have the ranking of all the major ISPs in the United States. It's actual, real world performance—compiled by Netflix from all its customer data: 30 million members watching 1 billion hours of movie content every month.

That's a lot of data, so you can be sure this is a reliable classification. The best is Google Fiber. According to Netflix, "Google Fiber is now the most consistently fast ISP in America, according to actual user experience on Netflix streams in November." It is not surprising, considering how much bandwidth the Mountain View company is hogging and how new its network is.

The iPhone is Coming to T-Mobile

Media_httpwwwtechnolo_dhpeg
via www.gadgetell.com">technologytell.com

It has finally happened folks. Today, T-Mobile USA parent company Deutsche Telekom announced it has reached an agreement with Apple to sell its products in 2013. T-Mobile is the last major carrier in the United States to secure selling agreements with Apple.

The press release didn’t specify if T-Mobile will also sell the iPad, but that’s a likely scenario. T-Mobile is also planning on rolling out its new LTE network in 2013. If everything works out, T-Mobile will step up its presence in the market with a LTE-equipped iPhone.

This move is sure to keep T-Mobile customers from jumping ship to other carriers. Provided T-Mobile doesn’t change its contract plans, T-Mobile will be one of two carriers to offer the iPhone with an unlimited data plan.

AT&T Is About To Unlock All Your Old iPhones

Media_httpstatic6busi_jwwuq

AT&T will begin unlocking iPhones that are out of contract beginning tomorrow, Engadget reports.

If your iPhone is out of contract (usually a few years after purchase) and your account is in good standing, all you have to do is ask AT&T to unlock the phone.

That'll let you plug in a different SIM card, which lets you connect to a different carrier's wireless network. That would make it easier to use an internationally-based phone provider.

5 Ways 4G Will Change Your Life

Media_httpstaticddmcd_ubdeu

Call it 4G insanity. It's the ceaseless stream of wireless and smartphone commercials that you see online and on TV. Those ads tout the magical properties of this newest wireless network, one that promises to do everything but sweep your floors and cook dinner. They say – these service providers and carriers – that 4G is about to change your life.

Do You Really Need an Unlimited Data Plan?

Media_httpimggawkeras_wrzbe

According to Consumer Reports and analytics firm Validas, nearly half of the people with unlimited AT&T data plans don't need it. In fact, those people (which make up 48 percent) use so little data that they should just switch to AT&T's low end 300MB plan. What?

Got an AT&T iPhone? iOS 5.1 now gives you '4G'

Media_httpwwwblogcdnc_gaagl

Ever since T-Mobile and AT&T began touting their HSPA+ networks as "4G," the debate on the term's legitimacy has raged on. Regardless of how you feel about the matter, one thing's for sure: Apple's finally taken sides on the argument, and the company's all for it. In today's iOS update, Cupertino features an "updated AT&T network indicator," which means you'll see a 4G icon whenever you're in HSPA+ coverage. Granted, this doesn't actually mean you'll enjoy faster speeds -- you'll just have a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that another G just got added to your screen. Such an action makes us wonder if Apple's slowly losing its ability to stand up against AT&T's wishes, not to mention the demands of other US carriers.

Google might offer TV / phone service over its fiber network

Media_httpwwwblogcdnc_sculf

Google has mentioned more than once that its Google TV platform isn't about replacing traditional pay-TV services, and now the Wall Street Journal reports it might be about to offer one of its own. Don't cancel your cable, satellite or IPTV service just yet though, as this would merely be an expansion of the fiber internet it will offer in the Kansas Cities, offering video and phone service as well. Reportedly it's looked into offering channels from the families of Disney, Time Warner and Discovery, but nothing is set in stone at this point. As CBS' attitude towards Apple TV makes clear, actually getting into the service biz can be complicated and costly, but we figure Mountain View has to fill those 1Gbps pipes with something other than Turquoise Jeep videos.

Sprint finally opens up on iPhone, 4G plans

Media_httpiicomcomcnw_djdoy

Earlier this month, Sprint Nextel's leadership team sat dumbfounded on stage as an increasingly contentious audience of investors questioned the company's strategy of pursuing its own 4G network alone.

The investor presentation, which came mere days after the unveiling of the iPhone 4S, was among the most raucous in recent memory. The agitation only grew when the executives refused to talk about the financial impact of the carrying the iPhone, which came at a hefty price. The meeting ended with the team, led by Sprint CEO Dan Hesse, making a beeline for the exit.
