Kickstarter Goes Mobile With New iOS App

Media_https2wpcomwpco_ewlfd

It’s Valentine’s Day and what better way for a crowdfunding site to show its love for you than release an iOS app? The new app will go live on iTunes shortly and allows users to follow their funded projects and search for new projects from the comfort of their iOS device. No word on an Android version yet.

“The app is a whole new way to experience Kickstarter. We took things we’ve learned from the past three years of building the site, and applied them to a total redesign for the iPhone,” wrote Yancey Stickler, CEO.

The app allows you to find and fund projects on your mobile and browse projects based on popularity and category. You can also follow the projects you’ve funded once you’ve logged in using your Kickstarter account.

Here's How Many Kickstarter Projects Are Successfully Funded

Media_httpstatic3busi_eebpz

More and more people are posting projects on Kickstarter, hoping to get their business ideas funded by peers.

But that doesn't mean their ideas are finding any more success on the crowdfunding site.
In the past six months, the amount of Kickstarter projects posted has grown 50% to 76,909, GigaOm reports.

Less than half of the projects -- 44% according to a Kickstarter spokesperson -- have successfully meet their monetary goals. And on Kickstarter, it's an all or nothing deal. If posters don't raise the full amount of money they're seeking, they don't see a dime.

When you think about it, 44% is actually a pretty high success rate. The average fundraising on Kickstarter is between $1,000 and $10,000, so it's no small amount of cash that's being swapped between strangers.

Kickstarter lays down strict new rules for creators

Media_httpwwwtechnolo_lsvfg

Kickstarter has exploded in popularity in the past year. It has become the go-to place for companies or individuals to showcase ideas for products and services they hope will become a reality. Backers are led to believe it only takes the right amount of money to turn an idea into an actual product, but it’s much more difficult than that. Kickstarter wants the public to know that Kickstarter is not a store where they can buy products that aren’t found anywhere else. To accomplish this, Kickstarter has created new guidelines for creators that are effective immediately.

5 Secrets of Success From Kickstarter Winners

Media_httpwwwopenforu_irlqi

Watching your product come to life through public support after pouring blood, sweat and tears into it is every entrepreneur's biggest dream. Kickstarter has become famous for making that a reality, serving as the birthplace of many now-thriving small businesses.

But just because Kickstarter has made it easier for you to raise awareness about a product doesn't mean that your campaign will be successfully funded. In fact, just assuming your product will be a hit with consumers and not taking intiatives before, during and after the project launch is a surefire way to fail.

10 Tips for Raising Money on Kickstarter

Media_http5mshcdncomw_hwplv

Double Fine, the game developer, raised $3.3 million for its adventure game, Double Fine Adventures. InXile, a game development company, made $500,000 in 17 hours for its role-playing game, Wasteland 2. Both did it on Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. Naturally, it would be easy to think of Kickstarter as a virtual Gold Rush. That would be a mistake.
