LG will reportedly release a flexible OLED smartphone this year

Aside from 4K and 8K, the only other significant advance in display technology that is currently within our reach is making one that’s flexible. Consumer electronics events have been showing off flexible displays for a while now, but they’re generally the equivalent of a tech demo rather than a marketable product. However, a new report suggests that LG will be bringing a smartphone with a flexible OLED display to market sometime this year...

LG Hits 10 Million in 4G LTE Smartphone Sales

With the company focusing heavily on bringing 4G LTE wireless web speeds to the majority of smartphone users, LG announced on Monday that their LTE phone sales have surpassed 10 million units worldwide.

“Aggressive pushing forward with 4G LTE technology allows LG satisfy the needs of consumers and is a huge factor in our growing success in LTE smartphone sales,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Mobile Communications Company. “Having established ourselves as a major industry player, we will continue to expand our footprint in the global LTE market with a wider range of differentiated, high quality LTE smartphones.”

WebOS lives! LG to resurrect it for smart TVs

WebOS gets another shot at life thanks to LG Electronics.

LG is acquiring WebOS from Hewlett-Packard, with the intention to use the operating system not for its mobile phones, but in its smart televisions. With the deal, LG obtains the source code for WebOS, related documentation, engineering talent, and related WebOS Web sites. LG also gets HP licenses for use with its WebOS products, and patents HP obtained from Palm. The financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

The acquisition marks the end of a sad chapter of WebOS, an operating system that many saw promise in, but was badly mismanaged by HP. Initially hailed as the potential savior of Palm, it was seemingly bailed out by HP before it quickly pulled the plug on its mobile initiative last year. Its mobile products, including a revamped Pre and the infamous TouchPad tablet.

You can’t believe everything you read, nor can you trust everything you hear on TV. Especially if it sounds something like “four out of five people choose LG Cinema 3D over Sony and Samsung for overall 3D experience.”
