Making Money Online — The Truth Behind the Hype

Media_httpworkawesome_dfniy

Here’s a good question: Can anyone make money online? I found myself considering just this question recently when I saw an article re-tweeted in which someone had stated flatly that they had done all of the things they were “supposed” to do, and yet they had launched an e-book product and had zero sales.

Something about that didn’t strike me as quite adding up. Zero sales? Really?

I reviewed the post a few more times, because the thesis of the piece (which was pretty bitter in tone) seemed to be this: This person had done every single thing they could to make their launch successful, and it had not worked, and that anyone who promotes making money online, in essence, pulling a hoax on people.

Study reveals that people are more truthful while text messaging

Somewhere around 200 thousand text messages are sent every second, so it’s no wonder that studies are being done to see how people’s communication with each other is being affected. According to researchers, people tell the truth more over text messages than while talking on the phone.

The Truth About Why Yahoo's CEO Got Fired

Media_httpwwwreadwrit_viohv

What's the takeaway from Yahoo's recent CEO fiasco? Don't lie on your corporate bio, for one, and make sure no one else has lied on your behalf. But the real lesson has nothing to do with falsified credentials.

Sure, the world will remember Scott Thompson as the Yahoo CEO who got fired over a fake computer science degree, but the context is crucial: A battle with Yahoo shareholder Dan Loeb for control of the company. If not for Loeb, we may never have found out about Thompson's juiced resume, and he might still be CEO. The real lesson is: Beware the activist investor.

Four months had passed since Thompson's appointment as Yahoo CEO, and no one had questioned his education. His relevant experience at PayPal? Sure, at first. But not his computer science degree. In fact, many of us actually thought that especially qualified him for the Yahoo job.

In hindsight, Yahoo obviously should have investigated Thompson's background more thoroughly. (And shame on us in the press for missing this one!) But even if Yahoo had found the discrepancy after Thompson was named CEO, it might have quietly corrected the mistake and hoped no one noticed.

The Truth About Making Money While You Sleep

Media_httpnetdnacopyb_cahdc

Want to hear about the day in the life of a so-called “successful entrepreneur?”

Yesterday, I stayed in bed until about 2 PM. I watched the last few episodes of Mad Men. Around sunset, I took a leisurely stroll down the beach. When I got back, I hung out with a friend for a couple of hours, ate dinner, and went to bed.

In other words … I goofed off.

And while I was goofing off, my business generated a pretty decent chunk of revenue.

You want to know the coolest part?

I did absolutely nothing to “earn” it.

The Truth About What Google Wants To Do With Motorola: Attack The iPhone

Media_httpstatic6busi_bbhuc

When Google bought Motorola Mobility for $12 billion last summer, the company told press, shareholders and partners that it made the purchase for Motorola's patents.

That's true.

Google got a great price for Motorola's patents, which well help protect the company from lawsuits that otherwise might have been crippling.

Google also said that it will not give Motorola favorable treatment, and that it will have to fight for Google's business like all the other third-party manufacturers of phones running Google's mobile operating system, Android.

The Truth About That Microsoft Office On The iPad Story

Media_httpstatic8busi_biadu

Earlier today, The Daily reported that it had seen and used a "working prototype" Microsoft Office for the iPad, and that the app will soon be submitted to Apple for approval.

But Microsoft is saying the whole story is bogus.

A Microsoft spokesperson issued the following statement to us (and other news outlets): "The Daily's story is based on inaccurate rumors and speculation. We have no further comment."

6 Ways New Writers Can Overcome Fear & Write Their Truth

Media_httpwwwaboutfre_hnwgi

I was watching an episode of the Reality TV series, Love & Hip Hop, when I was struck by something a record producer was telling the manager of an aspiring singer and songwriter, who once performed with 50 Cent, the rapper & entrepreneur. According to the producer, the singer could become the next best thing in music if she’d only learn to share her true self with her fans.
