Internet Explorer 10 now available for Windows 7 users

Media_httpcdn2sbnatio_yapef

Developers have had early access to Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for a few months now, but Microsoft is making the final release available to consumers and businesses today. Available in 95 languages, Windows 7 users will be auto upgraded to IE10 in the coming weeks, with the initial push targeted at IE10 Release Preview users.

Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 includes improved JavaScript performance, and a focus on battery life improvements for mobile PCs. Although Internet Explorer 10 has been available on Windows 8 since October 26th, Microsoft opted for a delayed Windows 7 schedule to ensure the release was fully ready, a decision that drew some criticism from users waiting on an updated browser.

Windows 7 users will now get integrated spell checking and auto-correct within IE10, as well as improved support for web standards like the latest CSS3 improvements. The user interface in IE10 for Windows 7 is largely the same as IE9, so users won't get the fullscreen experience that's available in Windows 8. Nevertheless, Internet Explorer 10 is now available to download for Windows 7.

IE10 Is Incrementally Changing The Direction Of The Web

Media_httpreadwriteco_gaudj

Internet Explorer is slowly, slightly, but significantly changing the Web.

Tuesday, Microsoft released a preview of IE10 running on Windows 7, as expected -- the same version that’s available for the new Windows 8, but translated into the older Windows 7. At the same time, executives with Microsoft’s IE team made the case that content providers have begun incorporating IE10-specific features into their sites, which would benefit those surfing on Microsoft’s latest OS, Windows 8, which has IE10 built in.

The move may be a response to Google’s Chrome, whose download page tells people to “get their Google back.” Google released both Google search apps and Chrome for Windows 8 last month, as well as a Windows RT-specific search app on Monday afternoon.

But with just the tiniest change to the functionality of Etsy.com, Pulse.me, and MSN, Microsoft is signaling that IE 10 might be taking a small step toward a more useful, and Microsoft-centric, Web.

The more honest approach for the Internet Explorer commercial

Media_httpcdntechicom_yhios

Say what you want but when forced to use Internet Explorer it tends to hurt those of us who actually enjoy surfing the web quickly. Though Windows made a nice attempt at making IE look promising, many of us on Window machines can’t seem to get it working in our favor so we turn to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox without batting an eyelash.

Microsoft Strangely Silent On Internet Explorer 10 For Windows 7

Media_httpstatic5busi_lqwvb

What's up with Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7? No one knows because Microsoft has stopped talking about updates to the Web browser for its older operating system, reports Gregg Keizer at Computerworld.

Even though Windows 8 will be here soon, enterprises are still in the process of switching from older software to Windows 7. Microsoft had originally promised that its latest, greatest browser would be available for Windows 7. But since the introduction of IE10 last year, the company has said almost nothing about its progress.

This is strange because Microsoft normally releases sneak peeks of its upcoming software. It wants to get its users psyched, and to give enterprises a chance to offer technical feedback.

Google Chrome Just Beat Out Internet Explorer as the Most Used Browser

Media_httpimggawkeras_flecj

It appears that Google Chrome finally overtook Microsoft Internet Explorer as the world's most popular browser last week—at least according to statistics fromthe web analytics service Statcounter. As TNW points out, measuring this kind of usage is hardly a perfect science, but as you can see from the trend line in the graph above, this is the way things have been going for some time now. Rats! Just when Internet Explorer was starting to get good.

Microsoft Finally Admits Everyone Hates Internet Explorer

Media_httpstatic7busi_ecvcc

Most people don't like Internet Explorer. In fact, most internet users (i.e., all of us) think that it sucks! We all know it, and now Microsoft has officially admitted this fact.

So for the launch of IE9, and in a bid to make a comeback against Firefox and Chrome, Microsoft is confronting that criticism head-on with a hefty dose of humor.

More Sneaky Business From Google: It Bypasses Internet Explorer Privacy Settings, Too

Media_httpstatic5busi_uedwp

Google does not honor a default privacy setting in Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 Web browser, but instead uses a trick to get around it.

IE head Dean Hachamovich says Microsoft started looking into this last week after news broke that Google was bypassing the default privacy settings in the Safari Web browser on iPhones and iPads. Google was caught by the Wall Street Journal and stopped playing that particular trick, but went on the offensive to try and explain its behavior away.

Incredible Urban Exploration Photos

Media_httpwwwstockvau_pcfgp

Urban exploration is one of the fastest growing hobbies, particularly among tech savvy young adults. Simply put, urban exploration is the search, photography and passion for abandoned structures, usually in urban environments. One of the mantras for urban explorers is to “leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photographs”, in an effort to preserve these buildings for others.

This Is NASA's New (and Awesome) Deep Space Rocket

Media_httpfastcachega_dihix

NASA got a new deep space exploration system, the Space Launch System. A new heavy rocket designed to take astronauts well beyond planet Earth's orbit. It's beautiful. It's like the Saturn all over again, but better.

The Space Launch System is designed to carry the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and additional cargo to the Moon and other Solar System destinations. This includes "near-Earth asteroids, Mars and beyond." (my oh-my-god-space-swoon emphasis).

Microsoft details Windows 8 Explorer - Icing on the cake? or waste of everyone's time?

Media_httpwwwblogcdnc_olzth

Lots of things are getting tweaked, if not completely overhauled, for Windows 8. That includes the ever-present Windows Explorer. Just like many other Microsoft apps, the file manager will be adopting the slightly more finger-friendly ribbon interface. But don't freak out about your precious screen real estate, the next version of Explorer will actually display more files than Windows 7 could by moving the details pane to the right-hand side and tweaking the padding. The up button has also returned and a slew of new keyboard shortcuts are being introduced. Check out the source link for more detail and a demo video.
