Sony Corp. has just announced that it will pay $1.47 billion (or $1.05 billion Euros) for Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson 50% stake in the joint Sony-Ericsson mobile handset venture. Based in Tokyo and Stockholm respectively, Sony bought out the Swedish company’s ownership of “five essential patent families” in an intellectual property agreement between the two companies.
