How Code.org’s ‘Learn To Code’ Video Starring Zuck And Gates Surpassed 12M Views In 2 Weeks

Media_httptctechcrunc_nzoou

You probably wouldn’t exactly expect a short film about computer programming to be a blockbuster hit, but that’s exactly what’s happened with the ‘Learn To Code’ short film that computer science non-profit Code.org debuted last month.

The film, which is in both five minute and nine minute versions and was directed by famed documentary producer Lesley Chilcott, features Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Jack Dorsey, Drew Houston, Tony Hsieh, Miami Heat player Chris Bosh, and others talking about how knowing to code has brought them the success they have today.

According to numbers released today, Code.org’s film has been viewed well over 12 million times in the two weeks since it was released. And the response was incredible particularly in the first several days, noted investor and Code.org co-founder Hadi Partovi tells me. Within the first four days of the film’s debut, the video had exceeded 10 million views — and that does not include views that occurred on Facebook, some of which can’t be tracked. It’s fair to estimate that the actual number of times the film has been viewed as of today could be in excess of 20 million.

How has Mark Zuckerberg been so private while running Facebook?

Media_httpcdntechicom_shjkm

For a man who built an online empire that is dedicated to make as much of our lives as public as possible, Facebook co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been able to keep his personal life in the dark and his media attention under control for the most part. We know very little about the man other than what he has been willing to share. Is he really that boring or is he simply a master of privacy in the public world he’s building?

Zuck On Facebook’s Mobile Experience: It Gets Better (But We Probably Won’t Make Our Own Phone)

zuckerbergphone

Anyone who has used Facebook on a smartphone or tablet knows that the social network still has a ways to go when it comes to nailing the mobile experience. Turns out that Mark Zuckerberg is well aware of this — and on the company’s Q2 2012 earnings call with investors and analysts this afternoon, he vowed that his team is on it.

Zuckerberg said:

“Facebook is the most used app on basically every mobile platform. So when we think about what we want to do right now, we want to increase the depth of experience in addition to just growing users. We want to not just have applications that people use, but also be deeply integrated into these systems as much as possible, and develop an ecosystem where other apps can be built on top of Facebook.”

Zuckerberg Just Got Married

Media_httpimggawkeras_owlge

Mark "IPO" Zuckerberg just dropped a Facebook status update bigger than the NASDAQ bomb: he and longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan are married, only a day after he became one of the richest men on the planet. He wore a suit!

As far as anyone can tell, the news of the marriage between the notoriously secretive couple—about whom we know only of a shared dog, lavish vacation, and tense standoff between her vegetarianism and his staunch chicken-killing—was broken on Facebook. Of course.
