Apple IS Working On A TV, And It Could Be Ready By Year End

Apple is still working on a TV, and it could be ready by the end of this year, though it's more likely to come at the start of 2014, say DigiTimes reporters Julian Ho and Alex Wolfgram.

According to their "industry supply chain sources" the TV "is likely" to support Ultra HD, or 4K, which is the next generation of high definition. They also hear it will have voice and motion controls.

Previously, Peter Misek at Jefferies reported Apple was looking to get TV panels that are close to 4K quality without the 4K cost.

Apple To Open Up SDK For Apple TV Apps

Apple will open up its Apple TV to third-party apps at its big developers conference next week, BGR reports.

Rumblings of Apple TV apps began a few days ago when Daring Fireball's John Gruber noticed Apple may be planning sessions for developers.

If the reports are true, we probably won't see third-party Apple TV apps until this fall, when the next version of iOS is expected to launch. (The Apple TV runs iOS, just like the iPhone and iPad.)

iTunes Creator Leading Apple TV Development

Jeff Robbin, who worked on the iPod and Apple's online music store and player iTunes, is now leading Apple's stealthy integrated television project.

The project is not Apple's $99 side project set-top box but a completely new product. It was Jobs' next major project, which prompted the company to throw Robbin at the head of the pack, sources told Bloomberg.
