How to Build the World's Tallest Skyscraper in 90 Days

Media_httpcdntheatlan_srciw

A Chinese company thinks they've simplified the construction process so much that they can build the world's tallest skyscraper in 90 days.

Broad Sustainable Building Corporation will lay the foundation for their "Sky City" project this month. The company, famous for building tall buildings in ridiculously short time spans, plans to construct a 220-story skyscraper in 90 days, with construction starting in January and finishing in March. Sky City, if successful, will be 10 meters higher than the current tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

How do they plan on doing it? BSB eschews architectural beauty for simplicity. Their building are tall and block-y. They essentially make buildings out of lego blocks, but in real life. The National Post has a nice graph explaining how they plan on achieving their 90 day goal. "Traditional construction is chaotic," BSB chairman Zhang Yue recently told Wired magazine. "We took construction and moved it into the factory." BSB prepares the pieces offsite and then brings everything together so it slides in easily when construction begins, exactly like Lego blocks. By breaking everything down into simple blocks piled on top of one another, it allows them to build at an amazing pace -- their goal for Sky City is 5 stories a day.

Facebook Thinks That All Months Have Only 30 Days

Media_httpimggawkeras_vxksm

This may be a temporary problem, but it has been confirmed by several people including ourselves: as of this moment, you can't set your day of birth to the 31st of any month in Facebook.

The social network thinks that January, March, May, July, August, October, and December only have 30 days.

4 Ways to Stay Productive on Slow Days

Media_httpfreelancesw_dyenj

Every five weeks or so, our team finishes up another issue of our magazine. The last week of production is always the most stressful. We send our issues to our printer on a Tuesday, and then we all sit back and collectively sigh with relief.

Those Tuesdays always feel like Fridays to me due to my adrenaline rush. By Wednesday, I am exhausted…but I still have the rest of the week to do…something! These three days, and sometimes the week after, are the slowest days in our production cycle, and while I really don’t feel like doing a whole heck of a lot…I have to keep pushing forward.

Angry Birds Space, the newest gravity-bending installment in the Angry Birds franchise, has been downloaded 10 million times in three days.

It kicked Draw Something out of the top spot on the Apple App Store just hours after it came out, immediately dethroning a ~$200 million acquisition that happened just last week.

Amazing Project : 100 logos in 100 days

Media_httpwwwtopdesig_fqchj

The goal of this project was to train creative thinking every day (and of course promote as a designer ). Robert Butkovic made 100 logos in 100 days. The only rule was that he didn’t spend more than 100 minutes on each logo (that doesn’t include thinking about the logo). The logos were made fast, sometimes rough, sometimes even drawn on paper or palm of his hand.
