This Is How Cities Would Look at Night Without Lights

Media_httpimggawkeras_eliag

These Darkened Cities image series by Thierry Cohen is truly awe inspiring. Not only because he accurately portraits the skylines of major cities with no lighting whatsoever, but because the images remind us of the incredible show we city dwellers are missing every night.

To make these images, Cohen travelled to places far away from the cities but on the same latitude. While LA, San Francisco or Rio de Janeiro are buzzing with gigawatts of electricity, locations like Joshua Tree National park, the Mojave Desert, and the Amazon are completely dark. They see the exact same skies as their urban counterparts, just separated by some time, as Earth rotates on its axis. Cohen photographed and combined these skies with images of the cities, treated so they looked as though they were illuminated only by the stars. The result is what you see here.

How That Football Field Was Blown Up in The Dark Knight Rises

Media_httpimggawkeras_ynbiv

The Dark Knight Rises was pretty incredible for many reasons. But one of the most jaw-dropping bits was when Bane blew-up an American football stadium right at the start of a game. Here's how they actually did it.

Raised turf with holes for people to fall into, pyrotechnics galore, a myriad of stunt personnel—and then literally months spent in the visual effects studio. Worth it in the end, though, because that scene genuinely made the movie. There'll be more where that came from when the DVD lands on December 3rd, and judging by that clip, it might actually be worth watching the special features for once.

While The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters in just a little more than a week, this new 13-minute featurette is well worth committing the time as director Christopher Nolan, along with the film's cast and creative forces show how much went into the massive undertaking that was this film.

We also get some fascinating perspective on the film's intentions, characters, plot, and it really drives home the fact that this, indeed, is the finale to Nolan's groundbreaking Batman films and they intend to go out with a bang.

30 Awesome Dark Web Designs

Media_httpwwwfuelyour_qmrpd

It’s harder to get the same feeling with black designs: even with equivalent spacing, things feel more claustrophobic, and for long text in particular it can be tiresome to read.
