Double Exposure: What Happens When Exposing The Same Film (Or CF) Twice
Double Exposure is something most of us who ever had a film camera experienced at least once. By accident. It happened when the film got stuck, or when we used a used film again by mistake. With the digital age coming in and replacing film, in-camera double exposures became a very rare kind of photography, but in recent years, many DSLRs added the option to create a double exposure in camera, and this old style came back to life. Check out these great examples of Double Exposure found on Flickr.
To create in-camera double exposure, just find the “Multiple Exposure” option under the ‘Camera’ sub-menu, in both Canon and Nikon cameras. Set it to capture 2 images, and take your shots. Very simple with great and creative results. Creating double exposure in post processing is as easy: Basically all you have to do is to add 2 images to 2 different layer, and set the top one to ‘screen’ blending mode.

Creatively Retouched Photographs
Photo retouching is a very delicate art when it comes to achieving a good result. Photo retouching, simply put, is the use of image editing to alter or enhance a photograph. It can use anything from simple alterations to complex manipulations and compositions.
The trick with photo retouching is to maintain a balance between the original photograph and the edits. However, the balance depends on what the photograph is for, as a nature photograph for a promotional ad will require a different balance than a high-impact sports photograph.

Art on the Edge: Unbelievable Street Art Illusions
Street art has always fascinated me. There is an intense beauty in art that is unmotivated by success or social advancement and recognition. Now tagging your pseudonym on a wall of a house or statue can hardly be called art, this is more of an act of pointless vandalism than anything else really. It’s like doodling in somebody else’s notebook. The motivation that drives a true street artist is usually one of two things.
Either the artist wants to make the streets of his/hers town more alive and beautiful or wants to send a message (sometimes it’s both). Noble goals as they may be it is dangerous work since the authorities of most countries see these people as common vandals. Regardless of these hardships and restrictions street art has evolved and is now an accepted art form. Not surprising when we take into account the breathtaking beauty of their work which even the untrained eye can perceive as something that really takes talent and hard work to achieve.

Film Design Awards Finalists Screening at SXSW Next Week
In his recent post on Wide Screen, the Yahoo movies blog, Will Perkins wonders where the Oscars for Best Title Sequence were at the recent ceremony. Indeed, although this area of filmmaking is already recognised at the Emmies with the Emmy Award For Outstanding Main Title Design, it still is overlooked at most other award shows for the film industry. Fortunately Ian Albinson, founder and editor-in-chief of the influential Art of the Title website, and a principal of the motion design studio Albinson Design, is again hosting the unofficial Oscars for Film Title Design next week, on March 11 at SXSW 2013.
Now entering its 4th year, the SXSW Film Design Awards recognise Excellence in Poster Design and in Title Design. I had the pleasure to attend last year’s screening of the finalists and highly recommend it even if you only have a passing interest in film title design. This year’s presentation of the best title sequences of 2012 will open with an informative conversation between award-winning main titles designer and broadcast editor Jay Bond and host Ian Albinson. Bond is co-founder of Oily Film Company Inc. who were responsible for 2012 Film Design Award-winner Les Bleus de Ramville. And if you can’t make it to SXSW, you can watch all the finalists in the gallery on Vimeo by clicking the images in the list below.

Vimeo introduces 'Looks,' gives users access to over 500 'Hollywood-style' effects
The user-uploaded videos you find at Vimeo are typically a hair more polished than your average YouTube clip, but that doesn't mean the company is averse to embracing the filters trend. In fact, that's exactly what it's doing today with the rollout of Looks, a new addition to the site's Enhancer toolset that offers over 500 visual effects users can add to their projects. Everything is done directly within the web browser, and you're able to preview each effect in realtime before deciding if it's the right match. With the overwhelming number of options, Vimeo has helpfully categorized Looks by genre and mood to help filmmakers quickly excise effects that aren't likely to fit. Perhaps most intriguing, the video site can also choose a Look automatically "based on technical analysis of the user's video and social data." Vimeo plans to roll out Looks, made possible through a partnership with Vivoom, to registered users within the next 90 days.

What Movies Look Like Before Special Effects
New tumblr alert: Before VFX. It's a revealing collection of pictures that show what movies look like before any sort of visual effects are added. Which basically means it makes every movie, even Oscar-worthy movies, look completely ridiculous. The magic of the movies!
The Before VFX picture collection is growing and range from Life of Pi and Lincoln to The Avengers and Prometheus to The Muppets and John Carter. I want to see every movie before effects are added so I can laugh when I see actors prance around in half-assed costumes against a green screen. I don't think seeing beautiful people act ridiculous in a fake room will ever get old.

Photorealistic Graphite Drawings of Planes on Canvas
Cuban artist Jorge López Pardo masterfully illustrates metaphoric scenes about life in graphite on canvas. His portfolio's photorealistic renditions, particularly those found in his series' titled Black Box and Sighting, depict interpretive representations of how the artist sees the world. López Pardo uses a plane as a symbol of the modern man who undergoes the trials and tribulations of life—struggling with inner dilemmas, from loneliness to one's own personal path. They are artistic portrayals of the plight of man.
To explain his chosen subject López Pardo says, "A plane has no boundaries—in fact, it’s always breaking them." He also points out their globally recognized form and the multicultural cargo and passengers any given aircraft holds. His message about the contemporary man's internal struggle is a universal one. The artist explains, "The sobriety and the formal synthesis, as well as the vague environments, make these works spaces for a gaze toward the interior, a search that exceeds the limits of the machine and becomes eminently human."
