Art on the Edge: Unbelievable Street Art Illusions

Media_httpinspiration_jpbjd

Street art has always fascinated me. There is an intense beauty in art that is unmotivated by success or social advancement and recognition. Now tagging your pseudonym on a wall of a house or statue can hardly be called art, this is more of an act of pointless vandalism than anything else really. It’s like doodling in somebody else’s notebook. The motivation that drives a true street artist is usually one of two things.

Either the artist wants to make the streets of his/hers town more alive and beautiful or wants to send a message (sometimes it’s both). Noble goals as they may be it is dangerous work since the authorities of most countries see these people as common vandals. Regardless of these hardships and restrictions street art has evolved and is now an accepted art form. Not surprising when we take into account the breathtaking beauty of their work which even the untrained eye can perceive as something that really takes talent and hard work to achieve.

Illusion works by Patrick Jacobs

Media_httpdesigncolle_ixsbx

A kind of pseudo-science or homespun natural phenomena characterizes Jacobs’ work whose protagonists are typically at odds with an increasingly anxious and paranoid world. Only in their futile attempt at transcending their reality and achieving the impossible do they succeed http://patrickjacobs.info/

Incredible 3D Optical Illusion Artwork

Media_httpwwwicanbecr_fqlhw

One of the most incredible forms of artwork to literally hit the streets in the last few years is 3D optical illusions. This is where the artist draws a piece that, when viewed from a specific angle, looks like a very realistic, 3D scene. Artists transform posters, sidewalks, and other structures into whole other worlds, often using only chalk.

In this collection, we chose to focus on street art. These artists are often hired to promote a brand, but many do their work for the simple fun of producing great art. A great way to gain exposure as a new artist is to create your own 3D street art and place it on your website or do a social media blast of the images. So take a look at the following incredible 3D optical illusion artworks and let them inspire you to create your own inspiring designs.

These Painted Optical Illusions Are Amazingly Beautiful

Media_httpimggawkeras_ebbga

I love the work of Shintaro Ohata. His canvases are beautiful on their own but, when he mixes painting and sculpture, he creates optical illusions that take his art to a whole new level.

The sculpture and the painting merge into one with lighting that is not even there. The 3D people in his scene seem to be illuminated by the light sources in the painting—which of course don't exist. He just uses the same tones to render the overall illumination onto the sculptures, creating an atmospheric effect and furthering the illusion of lighting in the painting itself.

Miscellaneous Optical Illusions Photography

Media_httpwhudatdeima_vhnru

“As we’ve talked before, optical illusions are created by our minds which always try to find the easiest way to look at things. At a first glance, we try to relate the image with the most basic and close interpretation of it, and only after a few seconds do we realize that separate details of the image don’t even make sense.”

Media_httpapiningcom8_fgrea

When self-taught artist Ramon Bruin picks up an airbrush, you know something amazing is about to happen. Every image that he creates is an optical illusion that has viewers wondering if they are looking at a flat image or witnessing a three-dimensional moment. Special airbrushing techniques allow the artist to spray paint in gradient patterns on any surface, a system that allows for different densities of color. In combination with these varying lights and darks, Bruin's accurate and flawless use of shadows creates extremely photorealistic images.
