How To Capture Someone’s Attention In 10 Seconds

Media_httpwwwopenforu_dltvh

Meeting the right people at a conference isn’t easy. Anyone that has tried to connect with a potential sales prospect or strategic partner can relate. Its infinitely more challenging if the person of interest is speaking at the conference. As soon as she utters her last word, a mob of attendees rushes the speaker, waving business cards and vying for her attention. In some cases, especially if it’s an industry titan, you may not have a second opportunity to meet. Mission not accomplished.

It described the temptations we all face when negotiating under duress—for example, acting too quickly or relying too much on coercion—and suggested that the principles of effective negotiation become even more important when the stakes are high and the pressure is on. The authors used examples from military negotiations in Iraq and Afghanistan to illustrate those principles.

We followed up with Weiss and Hughes to understand more about how readers could apply these negotiating principles to their own situations.

Media_httpwwwopenforu_iectu

Effective verbal communication is probably the one skill that can make you shine like a superstar in a few minutes. Brilliant speeches, sales pitches and conversations only take moments to deliver, but live on long after they are over.
