Here's Why Kim Dotcom's New File-Sharing Site MIGHT Be Legal

THERE are less conspicuous ways to launch a business. A staged helicopter raid and a synchronised dance routine that would put Korean rapper Psy to shame were the sideline attractions as German-born entrepreneur Kim Dotcom, a 39-year old whose bluster is as big as his waistline, returned to public life with his new site, Mega. Much like Megaupload, Mr Dotcom's previous troublesome offering, Mega works as a file storage and sharing service.

The site claims more than 1m users have registered since its launch in New Zealand yesterday, which is not an implausible number since Mr Dotcom is something of an internet celebrity. The website’s servers seem unable to cope with the large initial interest. Those who sign up to the website will have access to 50 gigabytes of free storage space to store and share files with other users—ten times the free storage space provided by Google Drive, and 25 times the amount offered by Dropbox, the two major competitors in the field.

Megaupload's New Website Me.ga Has Already Been Shut Down

Kim Dotcom has been hyping up Megaupload's new website Mega for so long that it seemed like a given that the file sharing site would come back bigger and badder. But it doesn't look likely because Me.ga has already been shut down by Gabon, a small country in Africa that controls the .ga domain.

Cameras used by professionals reach the 40-megapixel mark, and a typical point-and-shoot might have eight or 10. The amount of information the gigapixel camera captures in a frame is nearly as much as the amount of data stored on a PC's hard drive -- all for one picture.

Insane 33 Megapixel 120fps Video Camera Captures 4 Billion Pixels Per Second

We've already brought you news that Japan's NHK was developing a mind-boggling 33MP video camera to capture footage for its new Super Hi-Vision format (7580x4320) that will one day supplant HDTV. But with a frame rate of 120fps, it means it's capturing some 4 billion pixels every second.

The boost in frame rate, from 60fps to 120fps, came in response to concerns that fast moving subjects might appear too blurry when shot at the traditional slower frame rate. Particularly when the footage was being watched on a giant display, like it's designed to be. So the frame rate was dramatically increased to ensure the imagery always remains crisp. And you thought your camera gobbled up the memory cards.

I don't just mean one of the many, many people who were using Megaupload and its sister sites to snag unauthorized, copyrighted content.
