Wikileaks Is Getting Pummeled By Unknown Attackers

Wikileaks, the Internet's top platform for exposing secrets of all varieties, is reporting that it's been under serious attack for the better part of a week. This extended DDoS is still coming in strong, and has brought the site to its knees.

The DDoS traffic, which has reportedly been coming in at a rate of 10 gigabits per second, has effectively crippled the site, and raised all sorts of questions as to who might be behind it. While Wikileaks has no shortage of enemies, it recently published a number of classified U.S. documents detailing what may be a huge, secret surveillance project.

Wikileaks Has Stopped Publishing Leaks After Running Out Of Money

Wikileaks is temporarily pulling the plug on all published cables after announcing Monday that they've run out of money.

The secret-spilling Web site blames their financial burdens on an "unlawful financial blockade" which started last year when Bank of America, VISA, MasterCard, PayPal and Western Union refused to accept donations for their site, reported USA Today.

The Government Has Issued Secret Court Orders Targeting WikiLeaks Email

In its pursuit of WikiLeaks, the U.S. government issued secret court orders requiring Google and Sonic.net Inc. to hand over information on the email accounts of WikiLeaks volunteer Jacob Appelbaum.

Appelbaum, 28, is a computer scientist employed by the University of Washington and though he was dubbed 'The Most Dangerous Man in Cyberspace' by Rolling Stone in 2010, he has yet to be charged with any crime and his records were demanded without his knowledge.

Wikileaks Takes Down the Head of Al Jazeera

Wadah Khanfar, the director of Al Jazeera, announced his resignation today after Wikileaks released documents that could prove embarassing to the news organization, the New York Times has reported.

According to the documents, Khanfar held particularly close ties with the U.S. government, to whom he promised the network would provide less critical coverage. He steps down today after running the network for eight years.
