22 Rules of Storytelling by a Pixar Storyboard Artist

Media_httpi2wpcomlaug_ejhui

Former Pixar storyboard artist Emma Coats tweeted a number of valuable storytelling rules during her time at the animation studio.

You admire a character for trying more than for their successes.

You gotta keep in mind what’s interesting to you as an audience, not what’s fun to do as a writer. They can be very different.

Trying for theme is important, but you won’t see what the story is actually about til you’re at the end of it. Now rewrite.

Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___.

Simplify. Focus. Combine characters. Hop over detours. You’ll feel like you’re losing valuable stuff but it sets you free....

45 Surreal Pencil Drawings and Illustrations

Media_httpdemortalzco_jcqbp

It is really unbelievable to see how many designers use and explore different everyday things and convert them into extreme designs. For example, Yulia is a paper artist, who works only with papers and make designs that is not even possible with design software. Another type of artists are the painters or drawers. They wow you just by their drawings. While surfing the web I have come across some great artists with some stunning drawing designs, and sketch work. Some of the collections were really out of the world. Some of the works really makes one wonder how could this not be real. It is hard to believe that the drawings are done with nothing but a pencil. There are actually many types of drawings like figure drawing, portrait drawing, doodling, cartoon drawing, mythological character drawings.

Two main components for pencil drawings are the various types of pencils and drawing boards or papers. The various types of pencils are made of graphite, then there are also mechanical pencils that you could make use of. The choice of paper is really important, as the end result of the drawing would largely depend on the kind of the paper used. Different papers would include textured surface paper, thinner, whiter, etc. Other useful components include the scalpel and a proper rubber.

150+ Best Sketchbook Art

Media_httpwwwandysowa_dffgh

At some point in ones life, most of us have had a drawing pad, or a sketchbook of some sort (I know I did as a kid!). This is perfectly normal, in fact some of the greatest minds in history had sketchbooks by their side, and I hope that todays generations and future generations embrace the idea of getting things out of your head and onto paper! It is incredibly important as a creative, artist, or designer to express the thoughts you have in some way, whether it be doodles on a sketchpad or ideas written down in a journal, because they come and go so often it is a shame to let any of them disappear! Ideas in a sketchpad don’t even have to serve a purpose really, but even if they are just for fun they help us to get better at drawing – practice makes perfect ya know! Keep sketching and develop your talent while expressing your ideas or observations of the world, that is the name of the game, concepts and ideas captured in a sketch can inspire and ultimately help to change the world! Who knows, your doodles may even inspire someone who comes across them years, or even centuries from now, and you weren’t even trying, you badass you. haha. It may be hard to imagine this happening but it actually does happen a lot (especially these days) – just take a look at history…

Inspiring Wireframe Sketches

Media_httpwebdesignle_rzqag

Sketches are a really important step of the creative process and every designer should take the time to sketch their ideas before taking the first step on a project. The sketch is the best way to see how your idea looks on paper, is a good way for you to try out options, see some proportions and improve your thoughts before getting deep into building something.

A while back we published a list showcasing UI Wireframe Sketches and our readers really liked to see how other designers are putting their ideas to work. Since the post was really popular and we got several requests for a new round of wireframe sketches, here they are, a whole new list of wireframe sketches we found on Dribbble. We will show you sketches of personal sites, landing pages, apps and responsive designs, so check it out. Remember to click at the images to know more about each piece and its designer.

Jaw Dropping 3D Sketchbook Artworks of Nagai Hideyuki

Media_httpimagenaldzg_zifqc

There had been so many artists who are well known due to their unique art works. But it is not just about the distinctiveness of their work that brought them to fame but it is how certain obras can be created by him alone. Every art work is unique since it can no longer be redone. Once repeated, it is no longer the authentic artwork. That is why, every obra of an artist is considered a treasure not just by the artist himself but also by his fans and followers.

Same as any other art work, the 3D art of Nagai Hideyuki is certainly a treasure. Nagai is a young Japanese artist who once dreamed of becoming a cartoonist. But then he realized that comic drawing is not the right track for him. That realization occurred when he saw the 3D street art of Julian Beever in the newspaper. He was inspired by the work and also tried to venture into creating 3D arts. Unfortunately, drawing on the street was not allowed in his location, so he looked for a different way to do it. He then started creating 3D sketches from his very own sketch books. Much better idea, right?
