3D Desktop Allows You to Reach into the Interface to Manipulate Objects

Media_httpenpunditcom_cniyf

SpaceTop is a see through desktop environment that integrates 2D and spatial 3D interactions in a single desktop workspace. Basically, it’s a transparent monitor that allows you to reach into the interface and manually grasp and manipulate objects. Watch the video below for a demonstration on exactly how it works.

It’s Not What You Think, Every Single One of these Objects is Made of Paper

Media_httpwwwthisisco_vkbvc

A dusty old chair, a wrinkled pair of jean shorts, or the classic shape of a wooden Eames chair, common items you might encounter every day without giving them a second thought. But try to sit on that worn Corbusier bench or wear that pressed white shirt and you might be shocked as they tear or disintegrate before your very eyes because, amazingly, they are made almost completely with paper by Los Angeles-based artist Vincent Tomczyk. Via his artist statement:

My art centers on objects to stimulate visceral connections. These compositions represent biographies of people, experiences and interpretations of intangible ideas. Although my work can be categorized as realism, my intention is to distill the emotion of an object, then through expression, reconstruct it into my view of its essential self – free of function. [...] As an artist working primarily with paper, my art requires me to be part craftsman and part engineer. I learned a lot about how to construct things by working at my father’s side, in his workshop. I’m compelled to produce work that is visually poetic by using a medium that defies perceived limitations.

Quantum Object Teleported 100 Kilometers by Chinese Scientists

Media_httpimggawkeras_ksrea

Though quantum teleportation has existed for well over 10 years, it has never actually happened at a distance that would be of any use to people in the real world. But for the first time, Chinese researchers were able to teleport a quantum object nearly 100 kilometers, ramping up the real world applications for the idea.

According to Technology Review, the quantum teleportation does not involve dematerializing and then re-materializing physical matter, but rather using a photon to transmit the quantum state of one object to another, thus allowing the recipient to become a clone of the sender (think of it kind of like your consciousness inhabiting someone else's body).

6 strange objects found in people's stomachs

Media_http2imagesthew_ediwi

A 76-year-old British woman recently checked herself into a hospital in England with complaints of diarrhea and weight loss. When doctors examined her, they found an unrelated problem: A felt-tipped pen that had been stuck in her stomach for 25 years. The patient recalled having used the blunt end of the pen to "inspect a spot on her tonsils when she slipped, fell, and accidentally swallowed the pen," says ABC News. The pen had never caused her any problems, despite being in her stomach for more than two decades. When the team of doctors "fished the pen out of its gastrointestinal hiding place, they found that it still wrote clearly." Here, five other strange objects found in the stomachs of patients across the globe...
