Yahoo Perks Up Amid Q4 Growth And Mayer's Plan To Right The Ship
Yesterday In its fourth quarter earnings call, Yahoo reported its first revenue growth spurt in four years. The company saw 2% year-over-year growth for the first time since 2008, with a net income of $272.3 million in the fourth quarter. The numbers beat out Wall Street estimates by 30%, with shares opening at $20.87 - the highest point Yahoo's stock had seen since its 2008 era highs.
All eyes are on CEO Marissa Mayer, former Google engineer and executive, who is widely credited with jump-starting Yahoo's stock into late 2012. Confidence in Mayer has inspired a much-needed morale boost for the company, which is still struggling to find its footing among massive, savvier competitors like Google and Facebook.

Marissa Mayer Announces A New Yahoo Mai
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer just announced a complete overhaul to Yahoo's email products.
There's a new version for Android, Windows Phone, iPhone and the Web.
The new design is cleaner – whiter and sparser. There are fewer ads.
In a blog post, Mayer says users "told us loud and clear" that they want "fewer distractions when it comes to email."
"You want to quickly login, communicate, and get on with your day. And we’ve listened."
Rolling out a new version of Yahoo Mail is, by far, the most important thing Mayer has done since she became CEO in July.

Marissa Mayer on Yahoo's plan for success
Yahoo was once the web’s go-to destination. It is the first search engine I recall using. In the past decade, Yahoo has watched its market share erode in the face of Google’s dominance. Google’s rise was due to a variety of factors including innovations such as PageRank and Maps. These innovations wouldn’t have been possible without Google’s people, a cast of highly intelligent individuals from all over the world. Among the early bunch was Marissa Mayer, a young computer science graduate from Stanford. She grew with the company and became Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, putting her in charge of one of the company’s most important departments.
