Atari S.A., a 31-year-old brand that is synonymous with video gaming, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. According to the L.A. Times, the company wants to break with its French parent and take the company private, a move that could save the venerable brand.
The company has consistently lost money over the past few years and hasn’t made a profit since 1999. The company still makes some games although most are rehashed versions of classic arcade and console hits from yesteryear.
