Huge Changes Are Coming To Twitter

Media_httpstatic1busi_xtbvo

AllThingsD's Mike Isaac has an excellent news story on the state of Twitter.

That said, it's very long.

Here are the important points:

Twitter wants to make "expanded, multi-media-rich tweets," like the kind you see from the New York Times already, an inherent part of the Twitter product. These "expanded, multimedia-rich tweet" are called "cards."

Going forward, Twitter would like third-party developers to build apps that make "cards" for the Twitter stream.

Twitter likes "cards" because they make for better ads.

Those kinds of tweets are never going to show up in third-party apps like Tweetbot or Flipboard.

So, multiple sources tell Isaac that "the days of these apps are likely numbered."

For this reason, Flipboard CEO Mike McCue has finally, actually resigned from the Twitter board.
