In 1983, Steve Jobs stood before an Apple-friendly audience and debuted "1984," the groundbreaking, Ridley Scott-directed, commercial that introduced the Macintosh to the public, while comparing George Orwell's novel theme of Big Brother to IBM, Apple's chief competitor in the nascent personal computer market.
