Torrent Site Pirate Bay Claims To Have Moved Servers To North Korea

Media_httpstatic4busi_uzypl

The Pirate Bay, a popular bit torrent website, is claiming they've found a new source of refuge: the "hermit kingdom" North Korea.

Various international litigators have chased The Pirate Bay all around the globe, insisting they cease and desist aiding anonymous internet users seeking cheap access to high-end, pirated content.

From Torrentfreak:

Last week the Swedish Pirate Party was forced to shut down its routing services to The Pirate Bay. The Party and its leaders took this difficult decision after they were threatened with a lawsuit by a local anti-piracy group.

Piratebay and the Swedish Pirate Party are only loosely affiliated — they share political goals — but the Piratebay website does not represent the party, and vice versa.

The Pirate Bay says they've been offered "virtual asylum," but haven't taken it yet. Nonetheless, they say they are using the North Korean network to connect to the rest of the globe.

North Korean War Propaganda Is Even Crazier than You Thought

Media_httpimggawkeras_yiqoq

What do you do when your rockets are broken, your nukes are just threats, and the whole world thinks you're a joke? Shout! Lots of shouting! Shouting and half-naked ninja moves and shooting RPGs at cardboard cutouts! In the woods!

This segment denouncing the government of South Korea by way of yelling and pistol-brandishing was recently broadcast across North Korean TV. Which is interesting, because four people in North Korea own a TV.

Kim Jong-un would also be wise to maybe take a few hundred bucks out of his Rockets That Don't Work program and divert them toward a used DSLR, so that his country's absurd propaganda flicks don't look like terrible late 80s VHS action movies.

What North Korea Really Looks Like

Media_httpcdntheatlan_zangv

An Associated Press story that ran Wednesday morning told the tale of a North Korean press bus that took a wrong turn into a part of Pyongyang usually shielded from reporters. Woops!

What did the reporters see? "There were stores with no lights, and side roads so battered they were more dirt than pavement," reporter Tim Sullivan wrote of the unexpected detour. The image above shows one such dark storefront.

Below, a dirt path leads to a residential complex that would normally stay hidden from foreign eyes and cameras. It stands in contrast to "Pyongyang's drab-but-spotless main roads, the only streets that journalists normally see, with their revolutionary posters urging North Koreans to struggle toward a Stalinist paradise":

North Korea's Big Bad Missile Launch Begins (Updated)

Media_httpimggawkeras_jqccp

North Korea is being extra naughty this week: the piss-broke dictatorship is about to launch a giant rocket for scientific purposes. Translation: a giant F U to the rest of the world, and a thermonuclear threat.

The country announced last month that it'd break its promise not to launch any large rockets by, well, launching a large rocket. And its five-day launch window opens right now.
