Hydrogen fuel breakthrough lets researchers extract gas from any plant

Researchers at Virginia Tech have successfully extracted large amounts of hydrogen from plants, a promising discovery that could help bring hydrogen closer to the environmentally-friendly fuel source many are hoping it can be. Y.H. Percival Zhang and his team accomplished this through the use of xylose, the second most prevalent sugar in plants. "Our new process could help end our dependence on fossil fuels," Zhang said of the finding. Hydrogen energy has the potential to become a booming industry, but as Forbes points out, logistical challenges have hindered its progression into a low-cost, widely available power source.

Detachable Super Mario inspired potted piranha plants

The Nintendo Super Mario game was all the rage back in the 80’s and early 90’s, it was for many kids a Saturday morning tradition to sit on the floor and fight for Mario’s love, Princess Peach. Those kids are now all grown up, many with kids of their own but are often reminded of those fond memories by awesome items that take us back in time. If you are that grown up kid, the detachable Super Mario inspired potted piranha plants is a treasured find.
Looking back, technology was a lot simpler, although at the time it did not seem that way, if you had a Nintendo system you were cool and many feet would trample the carpet within your family homes’ living room. Today, we are even more entrenched with technology and have an array of gaming systems to choose from including the classic Nintendo, although it has had quite an update since the days of cartridges.

We live in a particularly interactive age. Sometimes it seems like you’re hard-pressed to find a thing that isn’t interactive in one respect or another without locking yourself in a closet and sitting among the shoes in the fetal position. If researchers at Keio University in Japan have their way, yet another thing will be pulled into the wide world of interactivity: Plants.
