If I am not wrong then more people were using Google reader than Google+. The company has mentioned on official google reader blog that they are powering down the one of their much loved tool on July 1st.
Alan Mentioned that the company is trying to canalize the energy in some other upcoming products and tools. So, that the step has been taken. Google Reader has served us like an innocent child, without any demands. Through its many incarnations, Google Reader has remained a solid and reliable tool for those who want to ensure they are getting the best from their favorite sections of the Internet.
