This was the idea behind LinkedIn groups, and it’s a good one at that: provide a meeting place where like-minded professionals can communicate with each other, learn about their craft, solve problems, get feedback, find clients and promote their services.

LinkedIn provides a good place for self-promotion. As an employment forum, it is a place to find work and promote your services for free.

Facebook Groups Now Tell You Who's Read Your Posts

If you worry about who's read your posts on a Facebook group, now you can breathe easy. From today, Facebook groups will tell you—and the rest of the group's members—exactly who's read the post. Which is either useful, or incredibly creepy.

From now on, whenever an update is published on a Facebook group a running count of how many views it's had will appear below. When anyone with permission to view the post hovers over the counter, a drop down list will detail exactly who has seen the update. Eventually, it will say "Seen by everyone" if each group member has bothered to read it.

These Are The World's Most Powerful Mercenary Armies

With huge cutbacks slated for the U.S. military, the Marines and Army in particular, private security firms are sure to be getting a boost.

The Army is cutting 50,000 soldiers over the next few years and the Marines are looking to shave about 20,000 servicemembers over the same period of time.

So while business was booming for this group private military contractors, who take their military training and offer it to the highest bidder, it's likely to grow even more.

Modern-day mercenaries are stationed throughout the world fighting conflicts for governments that are reluctant to use their own troops or where foreign troops are unable or unwilling to go.

Sprint creates mobile security alliance

Sprint Nextel said today that it has formed a mobile security council to answer the growing threats to its customers and their smartphones.

The charter members include major technology players like IBM and Cisco Systems, security providers such as Lookout, and handset vendors Samsung Electronics and Motorola Mobility. Curiously, the group doesn't include Google or Apple, two of the major players in the wireless industry, nor does it include the other national wireless carriers.
